We managed to go and have a few words with one of Poland's promising young Trance talents Adam Kancerski. With releases on Wildchild, Baroque and not to mention two on Vandit this guy's one to watch...
Adam was born on the 11th September 1987 in big city in Poland. His adventure with sounds started a long time ago when he was only five years old. At that time he got from father a Casio keyboard. It occurred then that small Adam was gifted after his father in the music area. He was so inspired by music that he started playing on the guitar. Thanks to that he learned perfectly the rhythm. When he got his first computer he went deep in the area of sampling, at that time he made his first productions. When he was only 15 years old he started producing EDM tracks, and it took few months to conquer most of local clubs with this music. Producing solo tracks as well as in many collaborations already now, with 6 year old experience in creating this music he decided to show off his unique style & fresh talents also on the abroad, around the world. His banging DJ sets and tracks made in his own unique style just can't let you miss him!
i:Vibes: Adam, thanks for talking to www.ivibes.nu. How is your summer going? Is there anything that you are looking forward to doing this summer that you haven’t been able to do the last years?
Adam: Hey gals and guys! The summer is going really busy! The weather is pretty hot here, and after working (I'm working as electric man 10 hours per day) I'm spending time with my friends, girls, biking or just making music.
i:Vibes: You are from Poland. Tell us a little about your childhood and how you got interested in trance music?
Adam: Yes, im from Poznan in Poland, one of the biggest cities in my country. My neighbourhood didn't look to be a good place for starting making EDM music, maybe hip hop, then yes, but not trance music. Anyways, after hearing first edm tracks and discovering many genries, I've decided to focus on a one genre, which was uplifting trance!
i:Vibes: What was the first record/CD that you bought?
Adam: To be honest i can't really remember, but perhaps that was New Kids On the Block at the start of 90's.
i:Vibes: Poland has been banging out many new artists in the last years. One of your influences is Anjunabeats hero Nitrous Oxide. What makes his sound so special?
Adam: Yes, Nitrous is a good friend of mine since 2002 year, when we were "new @ music business" in Poland and in general, we started to making tracks together, and within a short time we've became the best producers in our country. At 2005 we decided to start solo carieers, and Nitrous Oxide rised up faster - he definitely deserves it! What is making his sound so special ? Definitely it is experience and very much talent. Krzysztof is learning everything very fast. He has spent really thousands hours on producing music, and in my opinion he's one of the most productive producers in the world Has anyone made like a 1000 tracks ? I'm lost in counting after his first 500 a few years ago, but I think he did it till now.
i:Vibes: You are very young and have had releases since 2007. How did you get your foot into the music scene? Did you go the traditional way with sending out demos or did you go another way?
Adam: Yes , in this year I have my 22nd birthday! For now i'm still 21 , but as you can read in my Bio- i've started an adventure with music at a really early part of my life by learning a little keyboard and acoustic guitar. Later I was a fan of rap music from the west coast of USA, so I was making my first hip hop beats (about the age of 13). At the age of 15 i've started producing electronic dance music at Fruity Loops, and this is my main tool to this day. Some people say it's only a toy for kids, but trust me its not! If you don't believe me then listen to my tracks.
i:Vibes: Some of your musical inspirations include Paul van Dyk and Above & Beyond that seem logical, but how has Da Hool influenced you? He has little to do with trance nowadays. His famous “Meet her at the love parade” seems ages ago?
Adam: Yes music from the guys like Da hool, Mellow Traxx and other producers that was making crazy music did a lot in my life, because that was the persons I was listening to when I have started partying and listening to EDM... seems like with an age im getting "ligther" with music.
i:Vibes: You have been producing under Nucvise for the last years, but now you had your first release under your name. Why did you go this route?
Adam: True, Nucvise was my music alias since 2007, and I changed it because of two reasons. First was the death of my father in the last summer and after a really hard time and break of music, with the start of 2009 I decided to blow all trance minds with my music seriously now, and it was the time for me to start making music under my real name. My plan is to make my second name famous in the world, the second name of my dad and his ancestors... Also this word NUCVISE was just invented. I wanted to have something, that there is not on google yet... and i did it, but too many people had problems with reading correctly this alias, so...
i:Vibes: What is the meaning of your alias Nucvise? How did you choose this name?
Adam: This is pointless, it has no meaning, that was just something original and catchy sounding word-in my opinion. But it has no sense at all .
i:Vibes: How has your sound developed since “Delta Area” to “Who’s in charge”?
Adam: You mean the quality ? Well... Delta Area track was made in 2006 and now we got half of 2009. I'm learning new things all the time, and now my main ambition is making really good sounding tracks and I mean the mixdown case. Im rating producers like that- if they are making good tracks with nice melodies cool ideas and a great mixdown - then they are pro for me. But if someone have good mellodies, and nice grooves, but he dont know how to make a mixdown and it sounds crappy , then he's not for me. Not untill he get better with mixdown. This is my way of rating. Thats why.
i:Vibes: You made a very funky track with Filo & Peri with “Jiggle”. How important was it for you to be able to work with such a fine act so early in your career? What did you learn from this experience?
Adam: The name of that track was "Jiggle It" - indeed - Bo and Domenick are fine guys, they helped me with this release to make more noise about my person. What I have learned thank to this collab ? Undoubtely the rules of this market.
i:Vibes: Your music in general is very emotional and beautiful. How difficult is it for you to find the right melodic sounds without coming up with overused sounds, but finding the innovative sounds?
Adam: Do you really think my sounds are innovative? That's really nice to hear! My mellodies are simple, but catchy, and my sounds also aren't too hard. I like the sounds of Virus, but I dont have any hardware, so im using my favourite presets on VSTi's, the presets i've gained in the last years.
i:Vibes: How do you usually work in the studio? Do you have a regular formula about making your masterpieces? Or does it change from track to track?
Adam: I dont have any direct formula for making tracks... its just depends on the motivation, sometimes i have it, and sometimes I dont, but when I feel that I have many mellodies in my head, then im siting and making those tracks.
i:Vibes: What is your most prized possession in your studio besides your PC?
Adam: To be honest i wouldn't call my room "studio". I'm producing at Athlon 3700 and two speakers Unitra from 1972! My dad bought them when he was young. Can you believe it ? The third thing i'm using is my mousepad and my midi controller. Nothing is really most prized here to be honest, but my dream is to buy a real studio monitors some day.
i:Vibes: “Fall out” was a beautiful track. What was it like working with Static Blue?
Adam: Fallout was a very fast track again with a simple mellody. Jon aka Static Blue is a very talented guy, but also very lazy. I had to motivate him if I wanted to finish this track in time.
i:Vibes: You have produced three songs that have been released on Vandit Digital. Was this like a dream come true to be able to make music for one of the top labels in the industry?
Adam: Indeed! Paul van Dyk was always my number one in this scene so I feel very special being a part of his label. Definitely the dreams comes true and I am reapiting it very often.
i:Vibes: “Even Better” is really a masterpiece. The rough proggy start and then the climax with an almost symphony break. Was this a difficult track to make? What was the most difficult thing you had to do to get it perfect in your eyes?
Adam: About "Even Better" track is a really cool and long story! That was a pretty day in the end of 2007 , and I felt liek I was gonna do a bomb on taht day. So I opened Fruity Loops and started making a track that was soo good, that I wanted to finish it as soon as possible. Thats why I wasn't eating, almost wasnt sleeping through 3 days. I had almost finished the track when I've tried to open the project and it showed me that "the error occured" and I never again heard that track in this version. I got really depressed and I did break the music. I was so angry that I just didn't have the strengh to making music anymore, because I was just woeful. But after some time, like 3 months I decided to start making music again. And I decided to remake this track. I knew it was too good and I knew I cant just forget about this idea. I also knew Paul is gonna like it and my dream come true, i felt it and i did it. After sending a new "Even Better" tune to Vandit (now you know where the name come from) they decided to make an EP with my music, and the second track was Believers a very melodic tune.
i:Vibes: “Believers” also released on Vandit digital is beautiful. Is it more difficult to make something innovative for Vandit? Do you have the freedom to keep your style?
Adam: Thanks! I'm not sure if i can really make something innovative, but if you think my music is , then definitely im gonna keep that thing and continue making tracks in a classic "Adam Kancerski fast driving uplifting style"! I feel freedom to keeping my own style.
i:Vibes: You also like to keep progressive funky sounds in your tracks as you showed with “Smog”. What was your inspiration behind this track? Is there smog in Warsaw?
Adam: Ohh Smog.... Smog is the tune that was made in 2006 and I dont know why it comes out as solo track in 2009 ? Hard to say, but inspiration was this boom for electro house in the current time. I wanted to make something electro, but more sick than all those "reapting tracks" that was being released then..
i:Vibes: Lets talk about “Who’s in charge”. This is another stomper released on Vadit Digital. How has the response been from the public?
Adam: The response is great! I'm still getting messages from all continents and many people know and love it! Im really glad and happy that I made such an epic tune.
i:Vibes: What is your personal favourite part of this track? What was the production time of “Who’s in charge?
Adam: To be honest Who's In Charge was made very fast, the main build up of the track was made in a few hours and in the next days I just made "final upgrades" and here we go, a track with a pungacious name was finished!
i:Vibes: What other productions can we await from you in the second half of 2009?
Adam: If anything won't go bad in my life and if I still can produce music definitely you should watch out for the original vocal tracks of mine, I just started a cooperation with a girl from Poland, she has a really cute voice and im just finishing this choon. Hopefully you will listen to the effect of my work soon ! Also I just made some remixes, so have your eyes open for my music!
i:Vibes: You are also a DJ? How is your career going with playing music?
Adam: Yep, I have played in some events and clubs in Poland, the most famous party that I played was on was Tiestos Elements Of Life tour in 2007 in Poland. Lately I dont have really much offers, maybe thats because im not signed in any good western booking agency...?
i:Vibes: What could one expect from a 3 hour Adam Kancerski DJ set?
Adam: No sleeping during my sets. Prepare for plenty of energy!
i:Vibes: What was your most crazy experience as a DJ?
Adam: Girls..... but im not that easy (laugh)
i:Vibes: Poland is next door to Germany. What do you think about the German trance scene? What other trance artists besides Paul Van Dyk do you respect?
Adam: Yes Germany was the capital of techno in 90's, for sure Westbam, Da Hool, Felix Kröcher, lately Klaas and of course Alex M.O.R.P.H., Stoneface & Terminal etc...
i:Vibes: With what artist would you like to be locked in the studio with for 24 hours and why?
Adam: Hmmm... its hard to invent it now. I wasn't thinking about it never, so i dont know who I would choose.
i:Vibes: What are your 5 all-time favourite tracks?
Adam: Seal - Kiss from a rose Usa to Africa - We are the world Justin Timberlake - What goes around Sandra - Maria Magdalena Adam Kancerski - Who's In charge
i:Vibes: What are your hobbies?
Adam: As you can imagine my biggest hobby is music, but also interesting thing is the question of the universe. I really like this subject! Also I love girls and all active forms of relaxation.
i:Vibes: Adam thanks for chat and good luck in the future with your music!!!
Adam: Thank you very much , greetings to all people who are reading this and who likes my work :) Cheers!
