The Poll that every DJ wants you to vote for them in is back again for 2009 with Armin van Buuren the defending disc jockey champion. The voting for this year's poll opens on Monday....
This year will see the 12th edition of DJ Magazine's top 100 poll to determine who is the best DJ in the world, or at least the most popular one around at the moment. The contest has been running since 1997 and has fast grown to be the number 1 ranking system that every major DJ wants to be featured in. For the past few years its been in the hands of Tiesto, Paul van Dyk and most recently last year Armin van Buuren. It's strange how year on year people keep saying Trance is dead but the top 100 poll just proves its as alive and healthy as any other electronic dance style in circulation.
The preparations have already begun for your votes with Above & Beyond getting their promotional tour started early with the help of UK comedian Matt Lucas in a quite amusing spoof trailer for that DJ we all know and love 'Clive Rudloe'. He is indeed just an imaginary character that the trio invented just for a laugh for something different than just a 'Vote For Me Please' mail you get through from most DJ's and labels. He has had a spot at the Ministry of Sound though but as you can see his Rick Astley track selections did not go down to well with the club.
Let the silly season begin then as everybody urges you to vote for them. The doors open for this years vote on the 3rd August at 10am and will run until the 23rd September. Plenty of time to consider who you think has been the best DJ's in the world throughout 2009. Last year saw the poll register a record amount of votes from over 167 countries and no doubt this year will smash that record again.
