The early days of house and acid were what the Hacienda was all about. This new compilation puts together a few of the classic cuts that used to rock the place back in the early 80's and right through the 90's mixed by New Order legend Peter Hook...
If you look back at the history of clubs that had a special place in Dance music the Hacienda will certainly be near the top of the list. The club was a pioneer in the UK for its groundbreaking music and when it launched back in 1982 I dont think even the promoters behind would have expected it to be a huge as it was. The club was set up by Factory Records and New Order and first open the doors to the public on the 21st May 1982. New Order hardly need an introduction as they have been a firm part of the scene in the 80's and 90's with hits like 'Blue Monday' and 'True Faith'. Factory Records were responsible for releasing some of the classic records back in the day with the club taking on the iconic catalogue number Fac 51.
The legend that is Peter hook who was one of the founding members of Joy Division and New Order was part owner of the club and saw every mad incident the club had between 1982 and 1997. He was the Bass bass guitarist in New Order and in more recent years has been trying his hand on the DJ circuit with at times, amusing success. His contribution to the Hacienda and involvement in making it what it was fired up his enthusiasm for dance music and the early acid house sound. This compilation marks 30 years in the business for Peter and even he is surprised at the level of interest the Hacienda still has 15 years after it closed it doors. 'What a fuck up we made of it. Or did we? Sitting here now I wonder. Its 2009 and the Hacienda has never been more well-known. This year we celebrate 21 years of acid house and we are holding Hacienda nights across the UK and have merchandise deals for CDs, t-shirts, shoes, posters, even a bespoke bike frame and a fine art project. Where will it end?
Peter Hook This compilation is a hand picked double dosage of classic acid house tunes that Peter saw tear the club up during it's tenure on the scene and records that go down as classic in their own right. It's the early sound that drove many of today's established producers into the dance scene and will, for many, remind them of a club that will never be seen again. The records hold that atmosphere and spirit that made dance music back in those days so appealing.
The CD release also runs alongside a great book all about the club written by Peter Hook and offers a great insight to the madness that was the Hacienda.
