The Cosmic Gate boys have reinvented themselves over the past few years with the release of their last artist album 'Sign of The Times' marking their return to form. They are back with a new single form the breakthrough album 'Under Your Spell'...
The next single from Cosmic gate is here and its another one taken form their last artist LP 'Sign Of The Times'. The track in question is 'Under Your Spell' with the gorgeous vocals of Aruna in full force yet again. It's very fair to say that Cosmic Gate have been coming on really strong of late with the release of the album marking a new standard for the German production duo of Nic Chagall and Bossi. For Nic Chagall things could not be better has he is also enjoying successful solo success under his own name but the good news for Cosmic Gate fans is his passion towards the project with Bossi could not be stronger. This release is all about the remixes with no new Cosmic Gate effort to shout about but two very good remixes from Dunderstadt and Myon & Shane 54.
:: Album Mix :: Radio Edit :: Dunderstadt Remix :: Dunderstadt Dub :: Dunderstadt Radio Edit :: Myon & Shane 54 Remix
You must remember the original from the album released earlier in the year. It's here in its full album glory and put with it is a shortened radio edit for those friendly blasts over the airwaves, not that you hear much dance music over the wireless anyway. It's good to see radio edits and this one fits the bill perfectly. It's a dark and deep breakbeat affair with the vocals from Aruna telling the story. Deep strings of sound rush around the background with the main melody in here being very well worked in after a peak on the vocal. It's a bearkbeat that works very well to create a dark mood within the track but a spark on the melody that drops over the top. You think that its got a remix written all over it and thats what this release is all about.
Dunderstadt keep a little of the dark mood that the original has but they manage to slip a bit of uplifting qualities in with their mix. They have taken the melody and tweaked it with a synth driven main melody and upbeat keys that give the uplifting feel. They really drive some sparkling chords in along with the backing keys that add even more to the track. It's a progressively uplifting overall and a very well suited mix where the vocals feel right at home. If your not keen on the vocals and just want the pure joy of the instrumental you can as they have thrown together a dub mix here which is the same as the remix but without the main vocals.
The duo of Myon & Shane 54 has been a very production collaboration team over the past year or so with a flurry of quality tracks and remixes. They very much do things together these days after stings of solo production releases. There mix is all about a driving electric bass line from the start, working in the vocals as the sounds start to build up and the atmosphere starts to build from the deep. This is still a very progressive track with a nice break introduction a relaxed percussion sweeping through the speakers and piano keys leading from it. The remix does keep with the dark feel that the original mix has but puts the sounds to good use and puts a deep driving beat at the heart of it.
Conclusion:
I'd have loved to see a new mix from Cosmic gate for this release but the new mixes add something different to what was excellent original. Deep and dark in mood and one for the progressive fans, especially the Shane & Myron mix, Good work all round though.
