The 80's have a lot to be responsible for in regards to electronic dance music and the records that forged the sounds we hear today. An interesting new compilation from Ministry digs out the classic anthems electronic music had it offer...

The glorious 80's may have been gone for just under twenty years but the music that littered it still come back in today's music environment. There have been a lot of old classics from that time period given the full rework treatment in recent years, some good, some pretty bad. They range form just sample inclusions to full on Trance re-makes, a notable one recently is Chicane's new record that takes its inspiration from Gary Numan's 'Cars'. 'Holding Onto The Stars' is the record by Chicane which I'm lead to believe part of a re-make album they have planned for the future. That may just be rumours so don’t hold me to that!
Obviously though, there is no substitute for the real thing and with this nostalgic compilation from the Ministry they have compiled some of the finest synth driven 80's electronic tracks from the likes of Joy Division, Soft Cell, Simple Minds. Heaven 17, Blondie and the Pet Shop Boys. It's a mixture of 80's pop and dance but for those who really love the music from that time period the feel good factor outweighs the cheese. Who would thing you would find a Spandau Ballet track on a Ministry of Compilation though? It may not be a collection of underground acid house, or deep Chicago cuts that the 80's had in its bucket loads but from a commercial point of view it’s a world apart from the commercial rubbish flooding the charts these days.
