Leon Bolier is a busy bee with lots going on already this year. Read on to find out what he's up to...
Leon Bolier - Shimamoto [Spinnin' Records] We love nothing more these days than listening to the latest L.B. ‘floor-nado’ (see what we did there!?), whilst clue-searching for the origin and/or meaning of its title. ‘Shimamoto’ - whose elusive reference will no doubt one day be made clear - has been working its magic around the world danceceterias for the last few weeks. The first track to be taken from his 2010 sophomore album, it has already been Tried and darn well Tested by Judge Jules on Radio 1, become a pretty regular fixture on ASOT and picked up a convinced nod from Mr Corsten on his Countdown. An Aly & Fila remix is on fast approach and the whole shooting match will be out for you to pick up on the 8th of Feb!
Gig Flashforward The end of this month will see Leon make the hop, skip and jump over to Zaandam, for what is fast shaping up to be a 2010 ‘don’t-miss’. After their successful October show last year, Trance Nation is fielding a stellar line up for their first 2010 maneuver. Leon will be joining Sander van Doorn, W&W, Randy Katana & others for the event on the 31st of this month. You can get more info on the gig (especially if you speak Dutch!) via this link.
The Swedish Connection Leon has been in the studio of late working with Marcus 'The Swedish Beatball' Schössow on a track still so secret that the Dutch authorities won't even officially acknowledge its existence. The track (yet to be given an title) is scheduled to roll out of the studio in early April and will be the second track from the new long-player. Oooh, and it’ll have a Breakfast mix attached too. So just to recap… that’s Bolier, Beatball and Breakfast... Good name for a group that!! I’ll get me coat…
Flashback to Streamlined – Edition One A hunting horn sounded out around The Netherlands on Boxing Day… You rose up out of your chairs, returned the turkey drumstick you'd been knawing on to the fridge, released the belt buckle an extra notch and heeded its call… And good on you for it!
A packed Club Poema in Utrecht was duly rocked down to the sounds of Aly & Fila, Marcus Schössow, W&W and Misja Helsloot and chief of occasions, Leon Bolier. Edition TWO is already being lined up, with a May 2010 arrival date already being floated. We’ll let you know…
N.S.F.A.Q. In our regular L.B. news-mailer feature we want you to ask Leon a… Not So Frequently Asked Question! The best inquiries will get answered and each winner will take home some great LB prizes. This month our winners will be be receiving copies of 'Pictures', freshly signed by Leon. Go outside-the-box, take Leon away from his comfort zone (wherever that might have been). If you pose an interesting query he’s never been asked before, you’re in with a GREAT shout of getting it answered! Send them over to: info@solarize-agency.com
Johannes Merte, Nürnberg from Germany asks: "How about not making a video for a song but for a full set? Just like Walt Disney made 'Fantasia' for some classical songs, one could try to shoot a movie for a DJ set. It would basically be a film for a soundtrack."
Leon replies: "For me it's the other way around I think, I would really love to make music for movies in the future. Even though the concept you illustrated in your question is interesting enough - I simply don't have the time to do something like that at the moment."
Who Dare Enter... The BOLIER Room!! In The Bolier Room we go clean through Leon’s mind & straight out the other side, usually with a subject he's been pondering whistling along behind. This month Leon is thinking techno... both old and young.
"“For all trance-heads that don't usually listen to stuff 'other than', back in the day I used to listen to a lot of the harder techno sound, stuff from the Swedish side, people like Adam Beyer and others. One of them was Henrik B, and recently I discovered that he is making some really atmospheric music. Marcus Schössow pointed out the track 'Klyftamon' and said: here, this is something that I'm sure you will like. And I did… so I'm passing it on to you."
Stay in TOUCH with Leon! Social networking! Where would music be without it? Back in the 90's, that’s where! A decade where mobile phones were carried for the express purpose of calling people you know while walking down windy streets (before they introduced all that new-fangled texting business in 2000!). Anyway those days are gone... thank the Creator! Now you can stay up-to-the-nanosecond date with all of Leon’s info-lightning-bolts through the marvellous digital vessels below.
