The latest release from Cosmic Gate may just be the single EP with a nice edit wrapped into it but its a record with plenty of depth to be enjoyed. It is no doubt a warm up for more explosive things to come later this year...
Cosmic Gate have been on fire for the last few years with their production sound a lot sharper than it used to be with their early releases. The duo behind the guise is Claus Terhoeven (Otherwise known as Nic Chagall) and Stefan Bossems (Otherwise known as Bossi). Even though they have very successful solo projects they are far from disbanding the Cosmic Gate name, so much so they are no doubt working on a fifth artist album. That may well drop next year but as for this one they will be going 'Back To Back' for a fourth time with their brand new compilation coming March 1st. This latest single 'Barra' is a nicely timed warm up for the release and a very good one, mixing a gritty build up with smooth harmonic keys.
:: Extended Mix :: New Edit
This release is really just a single one from the German chaps with thew New Edit behind more like a radio edit that just plucks the main elements from the extended. It may just be a single one but it’s got plenty of appeal to the ear drums. The Extended Mix is where you should be heading for the full effect. The main beat is hard with a snappy kick adding a bit of punch right at the beginning. Things start to build with a rumbling low end bass line and quite industrial percussion dropping in soft melodic piano keys in the distance that soon come to the fore when the beat drops away. The keys echo away and lead up to the main euphoric melody using bright impacting keys that build up with a rolling beat and drop right into the track. What you are left with a very well put together track that hides an uplifting quality around deep, bass driven hook.
Conclusion:
It might just be the single track on this one but Barra is a very nice track just in itself. The edit is there for those who just want to cut to the chase but for me the extended provides the better feeling with the smart way it builds the sounds up. All we do now, is wait for their new compilation, which I'm sure will be just as good as their productions.
