Tom Colontonio is back on VANDIT once more with a fresh EP with more than just Tom's production skills thrown in. It's an inspiringly energetic production from Tom with his very own in house vocalist...

The road to become one of Trance's hottest producers has not been a long once since he started to get noticed with his early productions under his full name. Before he was Mr Colontonio he went by the name of DJ Tommyboy and outside of the states was not known by many. He’s as good as a household name on the trance scene today having worked with artists like Activa and Sean Tyas. His talent for notching up a pumping beat fused with an uplifting melody have resulted in steaming hot tracks like 'Rounder' and 'Sum of Zero'. He has a big fan in Paul van Dyk who singed him to his label after being as impressed with the rest of the electronic dance scene with Tom's work. It's his very own VANDIT label where we see Tom's latest release fall with a double sided EP fully produced, written and vocalised by Tom himself. When JES, Justine Suissa and Jennifer Rene are doing their hair, it's time to pop a strepsil and dust the mike off.

The One is a helping of trance you wont want to miss out one. Tom's put together a great build here. Leading with a thumping backing beat, aggressive kicks and a super sharp kick drum doing the damage at the start. The opening hook in here is a thunderous rolling bass line that leads until he sweeps in an uplifting guitar chord, delicate sweeping synth's and unloads his own vocal as he builds up the melody. It's not that often you get an artist putting their own vocal to a track, Judge Jules has done it a few times to great effect and so has Tom here. He's captures real thinking mood with it and sits in will with the guitar chord and bright uplifting melody. For those who don’t like the vocal element in tracks, the dub mix strips it out completed and just leaves Tom's trance rich production to do the work.

Propensity is thrown in here for good measure and flips up a darker feeling than the One does. The bass line is deeper, snares spread out more and short stabs add an aggressive edge to the lead. It's backing pads are deep to and leads with a stuttering chord that’s added by edgy sounds in the percussion. The main break lifts things up a little lighter with a sweeping synth driven melody and sweeping atmospheric chords all wrapped up with a drum roll that pops the beat back in. The melody has a soft tone to it compared with the deep, gripping bass line that rumbles underneath but both complement each other well.

Conclusion:
It's a little bigger slice of Tom than you have had before with his solo productions with his own vocal thrown in but it's resulted in an ear pleasing piece of uplifting trance. Of course it's got that up tempo pace that you find with Tom's productions and perfect for those energetic trance sets and definitely one to put in the CD wallet.
