Solarstone is offering the opportunity for one lucky DJ to warm up for him at June's 'Off The Rail's' night at the Plug in Sheffield. A chance not to be missed for any trance music jockey...
If you've ever wanted the chance to warm up for one of the electronic dance music scene's biggest names then now you have. Solarstone has been part of the scene for well over a decade and responsible for some of the genre defining trance music the style has ever seen. I'm sure for many upcoming artists and producers his music over the years has been the inspiration needed to follow the same career path. Although, no experience needed for this very exciting opportunity to warm up for Solarstone at June's 'Off The Rails' club night held at 'The Plug' in the former steel working city of Sheffield. The only thing you need to do is chuck some beats together and keep your fingers crossed! Sound good? Then keep reading below for all the details on how to enter and a sneaky bit of info on his forthcoming artist album 'Touchstone'. The first single from it will be out soon and you can also read details on that, which is out in May.
Warm Up For Solarstone At Off The Rails!
So, big news on the trance block this week, Solarstone is returning with his new artist album this summer (yes, the follow-up to the really rather wonderful Rain Stars Eternal!). What can we tell you about it? Well, with 2 whole months still to go before the release not an enormous amount to be honest.
We can let slip that the title though... 'Touchstone' (which is also, if you’re super-on-the-ball, a bit of a clue to the theme of the album). Anything else? Well the current track ‘Electric Love’ (currently getting a fair amount of speaker-attention from Ferry Corsten and a good few others) will be the second single plucked from it. Oh, and there also is the matter of a rather spectacular DJ competition that will likely be of interest to all aspiring spinners and spinettes out there!
Touchstone’s accompanying tour will kick-off at that new bastion of clubbing, Off The Rails. Already a firm favourite with a long list of trance & progressive DJs, on Friday the 25th of June at Plug in Sheffield they’ll be holding the official Touchstone album launch party. Rich will be playing a 3 hour set and introducing, for the first time, much of the music from the album. We really want to get you involved at this stage so if you fancy warming up for him... well, let’s just see if we can make that happen!
Here’s what you need to do:
The competition is open to all members of the solarSwarm... If you fancy playing then get busy with a 30 minute music mix that you feel would provide the perfect warm-up for Solarstone’s OTR set. Don’t delay on this; time is quite tight as you’ve got until May the 5th to submit. When you’ve got that nailed send a 192kbps link via WeTransfer to solarswarm@solarstone.co.uk (please and don’t forget a full tracklisting)! Along with it we'd also like you to give us 5 or 6 sentences on your personal motivation for doing the mix. Every one will be listened to by Richard and the O.T.R. team and the talented DJ will be informed of their win by the 19th of May! You will have your name on the Off The Rails promotional material for the night (flyers etc), you’ll open for Solarstone with a 60 minute set and then once you've spun you'll feel the warm embrace of O.T.R.’s hospitality for the rest of the night! Oh and you'll very likely be the toast of all your mates! Sounds good? Of course it does! So get spinning and we look forward to hearing those mixes!
Solarstone In Australia
Solarstone closed out the Liberate tour of Australia in fine style last weekend. Having spun Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane, he rounded things off with a killer set at Rise in Perth. Whilst on tour, Australia-wide music magazine Impress caught up with him for a chat about all things Solarstone. You can read it online by hitting the magazine’s terribly useful PDF section and scrolling to page 42. Following the period of intense music activity and finding a bit of time before 'Touchstone' shifts into fifth gear, Richard is now enjoying a driving holiday across the Oz in his shiny motor-home rental. DVD fitted as standard, Mad Max and Wolf Creek already confirmed on the view-list!
Electric Love – The New Single
As mentioned further up the page 'Electric Love' will shortly be following 'Slowmotion' in making the jump from ‘Touchstone’ album track to single. Electric Love is vocalled by Billy McGruddy, who founded indie-agitators & Glastonbury darlings The Southern Electrics and previously collaborated with Richard on a clutch of early electronic classics including Z2’s ‘I Want You’. The track comes with fully-loaded across-the-board remix flotilla from John 00 Fleming & The Digital Blonde, Elfsong & Rafael Frost and some just-promoed more left of the trance field Royal Sapien & Bottin. Heh, heh, it’s out in May!
