James ‘Horizons’ Holden is back with another progressive trancer, ‘Solstice’, does it match his first famous release? Or is it better?
James Holden has gotten recognition of all the big players like Sasha, Digweed, Seaman, Armin Van Buuren, you name it, they like him. This new James Holden production will only confirm his producer skills.
This 40th release has got 2 tracks: A1: Solstice B1: I Have Put Out The Light
A1: Solstice. This starts off really nice, with some fading sounds, coming back and forth. And some vocals that are hard to understand. But after about ten seconds, a bassline kicks in, and you know it’s not a normal bassline, but one that will kill any dancefloor. After that, there are some layers added, and you already think that this just doesn’t get any better. But you realise that you are wrong, cause then, it’s time for the melody. And this isn’t progressive trance, but melodic progressive trance. A bit like ‘One For You’. The melody is just enchanting, it’s a simple one, but it has a lot of emotion built into it. It’s dreamy, progressive, uplifting, and that at the same time. There’s a nice breakdown, and after that, you have the same again, beats, melody, bass all mixed together to form a unique track. This record will get a lot of attention, and will be played by all the top jocks again. It has already been featured on one of the best compilations out now: John ‘OO’ Fleming – White Label Euphoria. An article about this compilation was on [i:Vibes], check it out here: ARTICLE
After the track, you just think, ‘trance doesn’t get any better then this’.
B1: I Have Put Out The Light. This is off the same quality as Solstice. Starts off nicely with a bass and some melody to it. And after about 30 seconds, you can hear the vocals, which make all the differ. They set the atmosphere of the track, the whole feeling changes cause of the vocals. After hearing the vocals, you can hear the actual melody, which will make your body move, even if you don’t want to. Vocals on this track were done by Jenny Holden. And she does it with a unique voice, perfect for this track. The vocals have the capability to convert anyone who doesn’t like vocal trance. Great track!
My overall feeling is: WOOOOOOOOOOW, another quality release of James Holden, it makes me wonder. What will the future bring, if he keeps on producing like this? I can’t wait.
My preference goes out to ‘I Have Put Out The Light’, just cause of the vocals. However, ‘Solstice’ is great too, but it’s slightly less better.
