Darren Tate is back with a brand new single release tipping the hour onto midnight as only a producer like Darren can. For good company the release also features an 'Alternative' mix of 'Sun Electra' taken from hius last artist LP 'Horizons 02'. Check it out...
Darren Tate released his second artist album during last year and for me it was one of his best artist works he's ever produced. 'Horizons 02' it was and for sure it was one of the best artist albums to see the light of day in 2009. He's already been hard at work this year with the resurrection of an all time classic in the form of 'Let The Light Shine In', which was an original recording he produced alongside Jono Grant aka one third of Above & Beyond. This is his first solo release this year and if you think he's just been relaxing on a beach for the first part of 2010 you will be very much mistaken. He's hard at work on 'Horizons' number three and this new single 'Midnight' is giving off some serious vibes his third will be the best so far.
:: Original Mix :: DT8's Club Dub :: Sun Electra (Alternative Mix)
Right from the start of Midnight you instantly get the impression that this is another master class of production from Darren. After a full exposure you’re left in no uncertainty that Darren has crafted together a beautiful piece of melodic trance with his signature touch that melts the ear drums. There is a feeling of the DT8 Project with the vocal version of ‘Midnight’ which features newcomer to the scene Ally Hammond who’s vocals are seamlessly fed over the sweet melodies to be found in here. For me though, I do prefer the DT8 dub, which just strips the vocals and keeps the same production and its that which will impress you most on this track.
The intro to the main beat is fed in by a punchy kick drum and after just a minute comes a wash of sweeping harmonics that feed in deep, lush tones on an irresistible bass line. It’s brimmed to the top with emotional flow and has a mood within that you can only find in a Darren Tate production. The breakdown is really something else, as the beat muffles down into nothing dreamy ripples float over the top of an engrossing main melody that builds and builds. The leading strings are soft and delicate, leading in a very impacting leading chord that hides the main melody underneath it. After the 5 minute mark it’s where the euphoria for me drops with a euphoric chord dropped over a delicate string that’s full of emotion. If this is the taste of Darren’s next artist album I can’t wait for the full bite!
A nice addition to this single release is a new mix from one of his record that featured on his last album. For me, it was also one of the best to feature on it. ‘Sun Electra’. The original had an 80’s inspiration about it and although not much has changed in this mix, things have just been taken along a softer tone with the sound and have a progressive edge to it. It’s a very refreshing mix from the original and yet again highlights the strength of Darren’s production skills.
Conclusion:
This is an absolute must for any trance fan with a liking for the melodic style. Darren Tate for me is one of the best producers on the planet and maybe does not get the praise for his work that others do. I'll praise him all day long, especially with records like this! When we get so much of a sniff of his new Horizon's album we'll be the first to let you know about it! In the meantime, 'Midnight' should warm you up nicely.
