We've heard that they will be releasing a new artist album this year but now we can confirm it. The new album by Chicane called 'Giants' will be out at the beggining of August and its sounding good....
Good news for fans of Chicane is that their brand new artist album will be coming out at the beginning of next month. It will be their fourth artist album (Fifth if you could the 'Best of' release last year) and is the follow on from their last artist LP 'Somersault' which drew mixed reviews amongst music fans. I can't doubt why after the immense success of their first two albums 'Behind The Sun' and 'Far From The Maddening Crowds', which was re-released back in 2007 to the delight of this reviewer. Those two albums are two of most defining electronic collections of all time in my book and with classic records featured on their like 'Saltwater' and 'Offshore' they are records that have inspired many new producers on the scene today. I personally found 'Somersault' a good listen, if a little bit pop orientated with that classic Chicane sound lacking in substance. It was a bit different fro what you would expect from Chicane and not everybody liked the change.
The new album though is sounding a much better improvement that the previous with a few of the new tracks already having been released as singles. Singles like 'Come Back', 'Poppiholla' and their remake of Gary Newman's 'Cars' track 'Hiding all the stars', not quite a remake to be fair but that record made the base for it. The same is for Poppiholla which is a cover version of 'Hoppípolla', a track by Icelandic band Sigur Rós. They enjoyed good success in the UK charts with that single keeping within the top ten for three weeks. Will they have the same success with the first single to be released proper from the new album in the form of 'Middledistancerunner'? We will see as its due out on the 2nd August along with the album.
You can check out a full preview of all the tracks by looking at Amazon's pre-order page as they have samples of each one up for you to have a listen to. It's a very different album from their last and goes back into the style of sound they used to produce with some melodic club beats and more chilled out down tempo tracks.
