It’s a question that will always be asked over time and its one UK dance publication Mixmag want an answer to right now. They have narrowed it down to just over 40 of the biggest names, past and present...
While every year the biggest poll on the dance music Planet, the DJ Mag Top 100 takes prize for the one every DJ wants to win, Mixmag have launched there own DJ Poll but its not just looking back at the year just past. The Mixmag ‘Greatest DJ Of All Time’ is looking back throughout the whole history of this art we know as DJ’ing. Spanning the many decades and short listing artists from all genres of dance music and beyond it’s a truly unique poll bringing up a topic music fans will debate until the end of time. Just who is the best? Your nomination might not even be amongst the shortlist that Mixmag has come up with, I mean, would you class Jimmy Saville the greatest DJ of all time? Can he still ‘Fix It’ for you? You may easily forget that back in the day he was a true pioneer and one of the first to knock together a set using two decks. That’s the unique thing about this poll; it chucks up names from a different generation that were kings of the DJ world during that time.
You have a few more well know faces on the shortlist for your consideration like Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, Fatboy Slim, Andy C and Frankie Knuckles covering quite a few of the many dance styles the electronic scene has to offer. They have been gathering the opinions of some of the world’s biggest electronic talents to explain why they are their nomination for the greatest DJ of all time with a video from each explaining why. Gareth Emery’s nomination is a gentlemen who gave him a big break on the scene by showcasing his music to the world. That is of course Paul van Dyk who over the years has been at the pinnacle of the electronic scene and one of the true trance legends of today, even though his style is spread across a wide range of electronic these days. One of the more recent names to break on the scene from the nominations is Eddie Halliwell. Judge Jules has been a long time admirer of Eddie since 2003 and has witness his madness behind the decks first hand at club events all over the world. He explains why his nomination was the king of bosh, Eddie Halliwell.
The list of nominations is well worth having a look at and surprising as some of the nominators might in fact be one of the guys you would nominate for the all time greatest. The voting is open right now so nosy on over and put your nomination in for just who is the greatest DJ, ever! I’ll take it upon myself to apologies on behalf of Mixmag that Tony Blackburn did not make the shortlist, sorry fans.
:: Vote now for the 'Greatest DJ Of All Time'!
