It's the third edition of 'Underground Anthems' with a German born New Yorker now firmly at the controls. Bissen has been hot property on the dance market for a few years now but this is his very first compilation release...

This as I’m informed is Bissen’s first ever commercially released mix compilation. He’s a new name on the electronic music scene and is a very firm Trance enthusiast. He does not see the limitation is just being a Trance producer in this day of age as the genre is always moving forward driving other musical influences into its own sound. The traditional formula though as Bissen has highlighted in a few interviews is still what makes Trance so popular today. The man behind Bissen is German born Georg Bissen, you can see where he got the alias from. He is currently residing over in the United States in the big Apple, New York. New York is a city with a lot of musical inspiration and a place that has brought us the likes of Filo & Peri in recent years. The production for Bissen does span back to 2005 with his debut hit ‘Like I Do’. His first major success I would say is on the label this very compilation is presented, Flux Delux. It’s one of the Discover in breed music outlets and way back in 2006 gave birth to the first Bissen track ‘String Theory / Sand’. Since then the Discover network has had releases like ‘Night Terror’ and the driving trancer ‘The Vault’. This is not a time for talk of his productions, it’s a time to look at the DJ style Bissen has been pounding clubs with for the past few years.

The ‘Underground’ series is a slightly different animal from the other compilations you will find throughout the Discover family. It looks to deliver a mix set aside from any other and Bissen is just the man for the job. You might have heard a few of his productions but never had a full length pounding from his ripping beats before. In outing together this compilation he’s got some very talented help with the likes of John Askew, Adam Foley, Thomas Datt and two generations of the Gold family with father Graham and son Ben. The overall style to be found in here is pure driving Trance, shape and aggressive in places but hypnotic in others. The opening few tunes carry a little vocal flavour after the first two tracks which drop a bubbling funk to open the mix. David Newsom’s Narco is superbly remixed by Bissen himself here dropping an aquatic sense of percussion with seething sweeps and a deep bass line. The melody is bright and opens up the space within the music, hitting sweet piano keys for good measure. That’s the mood for the first part of the mix here; a highlight for the vocal fans is Victoria Gross is a track by Bissen called ‘Give It Away’. He builds up an uplifting intro and drops right into a string driven break highlighting the vocal.

It’s not long before things go into a more aggressive tone and tech driven elements start to slip in. The double whammy of Chris & Matt Kid with both mixes of ‘Passenger’ is the catalyst for this. It’s not a crime to have two mixes of the same track on the same mix is it? The spread of home made Bissen tracks here is very welcome, especially with his ferocious bass line explosion to be found with ‘Denomination’. You can break this mix down into three journeys through the various style palette of Bissen with the tail end dropping in the dramatic uplifting big room trance that gets the hairs on end. A track in here for me which went down a treat if Ferry Tayle’s euphoric remix of Ben Gold’s catchy vocal track ‘Today’. The leads, pads, synths all used in here drop a huge backing atmosphere to this and keeping the vocal in gives it even more impact.

The mix is top draw from start to finish and does highlight what a talent this German born stateside trance producer has when putting a full flowing DJ mix together. No rest for the wicked as they say, Bissen’s been a very bad man with this debut compilation as its non stop from start to end.

Conclusion:
A great way to drop out volume number three in the 'Underground' series and a fine way to let rip with your first compilation mix. Bissen's picked out some real gems in here and produced a few along the way, all blended together in one immersing uplifting and mix.
