All the album tracks, full length. All the remixes of all the singles, full length. Exactly Like Dada… Just More!
Stare straight ahead. Take a step to the left. Perhaps one more. That’s it. Now you’re viewing dance music the same way Dada do. Not that they see their audio as left-of-centre. Everyone else’s is just centre of their left…That’s fine.
Club citizen: the last 12 months of Dada’s life have been momentous ones. Throughout it the two Swedes have travelled disco to disco, twisting melons, warping minds (many of which have been young), rolling out their audio anti-formula … and arriving in the process as one of the world’s 100 biggest DJ acts.
Rollback a couple of years to 2008, Stefan Engblom & Olle Cornéer come calling at Big & Dirty’s door. Having been ushered inside, wheels turned, studio lights burned and 9 (or so) months later a whip-smart album was born. Having previously recorded for Mylo’s Breastfed, Cook’s Southern Fried and Dahlback’s Pickadoll labels, you’ll hear all of their minutiae influences in ‘Just Do The Dada’s sound detailing… And no doubt a thousand more besides.
‘Just Do The Dada’… a place where exotic, sometimes quixotic technoid synths dovetail with sharp ‘n’ spiky electro-lines, while in the background the 303 churns. A land where syncopated beats from decades past collide kinetically with future-shocking percussion rhythmatics. Dada Does It Right… Hissing industrial FX propelled by jack-happy beats get test-driven in dirty underground clubs with low ceilings and wet walls. No mirrorballs here brother. Plenty of strobe though. This is where the Dada audio breeds. Distortion marries Discordance, thirsty pump-rock drums pound and sleazy vocals survive (and thrive). All clipped, chopped, transmuted and then transplanted into another Dada Life floor-packer.
Around the table, the ‘Just Do’ remix committee convenes. Alex Gopher, Moquai, Dimtri Vegas & Like Mike, Savage Skulls, Tiësto, Mustard Pimp, Moonbootica, Donn Rimini and others sit - all having just done that thing they do. The playbook’s gone out the window. Static explodes, rave riffs erupt, and planned expeditions to other musical worlds are executed.
There’s no being different by design in the Dada-verse, it’s different by nature…
> Dada - a group so good they named it twice. > ‘Just Do The Dada’ - an album so good they released it twice. > OUT NOW
