Get ready for a wild ride with Carlo Calabro's new EP on Fektive Record's Capitivate label. This new two track EP comes from one of the hottest Polish producer's on the scene...
Since his birth onto the electronic dance music scene Fektive Records have put a lot of faith in Carlo Calabro, they were big supporters of his early releases back in 2007 and still are today. They have a new double EP from Carlo out to tempt you with 'True Red' and 'Fake Red' highlighting the production talent this Polish born producer without question has. Chances are you will have heard of him as big names in Trance like Christopher Lawrence rate his music very highly. It was through his ‘Rush Hour’ show that I had my first taste of a Carlo Calabro production and was instantly impressed. He’s come together with a dark, moody electro trance flavour with this latest selection with each track cutting a different edge.
:: True Red (Preview) :: Fake Red (Preview)
Starting with the original True Red you’re instantly seduced by Carlo's bubbling percussion and lead hook line. The end effect after a minute build up is for that opening lead to subdue into a rumbling low end bass line driven build. It's a trance track that’s rough, dark and insanely moody. Using stuttering pads, rolling beats and an addictive hook that rattles the ear drums you can't help but not be enticed by this record. The break comes in and injects a slight sublime mood for a few moments but it builds in the electrifying melody and dark building pads back into the rumbling bass line. The riff on top of the bass line is worked in very well. The beats cut, chop and click, creating what sounds to be a very scruffy edge to it. You could just about call this rough tech trance with a bit of a melodic element.
Moving onto the imposter with Fake Red and you have a different kettle of fish altogether. The bass line that rips along this has a slight electro monotone sound to it. It's that monotonic riff that builds the whole mood for this track. He sweeps from speaker to speaker with cutting pads and moving backing sweets. The percussion is lead along clean and crisp. There is more of a atmospheric element in here with big leading melodies that drop the break in. The break sweeps in with a flat bass line and a creeping melody that gets juiced up the longer it proceeds. The record keeps stabbing in percussion elements and although an atmospheric sweep peaks from the distance this one never really hits a climax. It’s a track that will keep you on your toes all the way to the end and overall has a very dark mood to it.
Conclusion:
Another irresistible selection of rough and ready trance from Carlo Calabro you should treat your ears to. Over the two on offer here I’d go for the more up tempo and energetic True Red over it’s darker imposter.
