Let loose amongst Armada Music’s estimable and much celebrated early catalogue, production whirlwind M.I.K.E. has cherry-picked 14 of his favourites for a new mix comp...
Featuring tracks and remixes from, amongst others, Armin, Andy Moor, The Thrillseekers, Fred Baker & Pulser, there is also a whole lot of red-hot material from the trance master himself..
Following its creation, M.I.K.E. became one of the first major-league artists to join Armada’s ranks. As a result he’s had a ringside seat with which to observe the evolution of electronic dance music’s most successful label. Now he has reached back into their early history, selected some of his personal favourites and fashioned them into a riveting, gripping 80-minute music mix.
‘Classic Trance Anthems’ leads off with the flawless mezzo-soprano tones of Ofra Haza’s ‘Love Song’. The second release on Club Elite (his Armada sub-label), it segues perfectly into another early C.E. track - the deep, leviathan-like bass throb of Haak’s technoid thriller ‘Bedlam’.
From there it goes into more melodically leaning 2004/2005 outings… Interstate’s ‘I Found You’, Andy Moor’s hauntingly-vocalled, breakout track ‘Halcyon’ and The Thrillseekers Pres. Hydra’s searing ‘Affinity’ all build harmonic, drift-away themes into the mix. As it hits the mid-section the melodic tone turns more euphoric, as early A State of Trance releases from Envio, Pulser and Hidden Logic (‘Touched By The Sun’, ‘My Religion’ & ‘Time’ respectively) seize control and quicken the mix’s pulse.
Entering the final straight M.I.K.E. loads the dice for a big conclusion – an afterburning selection of his own body of work from the time. Launching with Push’s ‘Journey of Life’ it blazes through ‘Voices From The Inside’, his Armin van Buuren collaboration, ‘Pound’ and culminates with the speaker-quaking ‘Urban Shakedown’ (under his Solar Factor pseudonym).
For those who’s dawn-of-trance coincided with the dawn of Armada (and for those that just remember the period well!) ‘Classic Trance Anthem’s’ is the textbook revival release that your mp3 player has been crying out for.
It’s available as a download through iTunes and the Armada Music website on the 21st of January 2011.
