You can expect the next artist album from Above & Beyond to see the light of day before the start of the summer. It's called 'Group Therapy' and the first single to be taken from it will be 'Sun & Moon' for release this March...
When they are not plotting global domination with their Anjunabeats brand or touring the globe playing to millions of their adoring fans the trio of Anthony Patrick James McGuinness, Jonathan David Grant & Paavo Olavi Siljamäki – otherwise known as Above & Beyond – have been hard at work on their second studio album. The end result is I’m sure almost complete as today they announced the first single to be taken from this very anticipated long player.
The new single is called 'Sun & Moon' and if you have been in attendance at an Above & Beyond gig recently you will have already been treated to it. They recently played it at the Brixton Academy and the L.A. Palladium and were overwhelmed with the support for the new single. They like to dub it as ‘Alone Tonight – part 2’ as Tony McGuiness explains “Sun & Moon is really ‘Alone Tonight’ part 2. It’s a break up song, but with a twist, namely the idea that even though relationships end in the physical world they live on in your memory forever.
The original piece of music it was written over is a gorgeous naked arpeggio piece called ‘Mist’ that Jono and Paavo cooked up years ago and thinking about it now ‘Sun & Moon’ has had possibly the longest gestation of any of our songs: it exists in so many versions, many of which we hope to finish off.
We played another mix of it in our live show in Beirut two years ago, but the current mix, with the massive riff, is very much a product of our recent ‘Group Therapy’ sessions. We love it!”.
So, it's been a track they have been tinkering with for a good two years but in the midst of the new album they have taken it to a higher state of euphoria (Remember the compilations called that anyone?). The vocal for this new track is one they have used before in Richard Bedford on 'Alone Tonight' and 'Stealing Time'. It should be a very good launch pad for the new album which I would expect to drop around April time but as soon as we sniff out any details we will let you know. For now, the new single will be out on the 15th March on Anjunabeats.
