Settle yourself down for the inaugural compilation release from Silk Royal Records. Label boss Jacob Henry and Tom Fall take control to guide you though the Silk Royal Showcase 01…

There is a new progressive label on the scene which for the past year has been filtering through some quite outstanding new music. Silk Royal Records had their first release in 2009 and since then have brought to the progressive scene artists like Ad Brown, Schodt, Matt Lange, Mango, Sundriver, Tom Fall and not forgetting their label A&R Jacob Henry. Jacob’s vision and enthusiasm for the music and his label is inspiring to those who enjoy it. He’s a very good DJ and producer in his own right ensuring only the finest music passes into the possession of Silk Royal. It is on the labels very own radio show, the ‘Silk Royal Showcase’ where their diverse range of progressive beats and melodies are aired for the electronic dance music public. It is that showcase which is the catalyst for the labels very first compilation release in which Jacob Henry and his fellow label artist Tom Fall take control to tour you through the many different beats Silk Royal has to offer. After a string of gorgeous single release that break the genre barrier between house and trance it’s time to take a more in depth journey over two seamless mixes.

If you have yet to experience the music Silk Royal has to offer then your really missing out. Not to worry though, this compilation will serve you a nice slice of what you have been missing out on. I think one of the main points Jacob might have had as a head scratcher was just who was going to mix the second disc. The label has such a wide pool of talent to choose from, all with an individual musical style. In the end it is Tom Fall who joins him for this quite stunning debut compilation from a label whose music takes you to a place you never want to come away from. Over the course of this two disc spread you’ve got a total of twenty three tracks with 12 unreleased tracks not yet available on the single market. A compilation is never really just about one track, not in the progressive style of things because it’s All about flow and direction. Melting one melody into another and seamlessly transitioning one chord line into the next lead. Jacob Henry and Tom Fall both display this right down to a tea with their mixes here.

The music within those two finely crafted and thought provoked mixes are simply gorgeous. The atmosphere and different mood each track has within keeps things fresh all the way to the last sound bite. Jacob Henry’s dropped some pure class within his mix with tracks from Rainbow Addict, Proff, Tom Fall, Approaching Black and Shingo Nakamura who’s track ‘Sapporo’ stands out for me as a real highlight from the mix with its sublime piano keys, delicate layers and vibrant bass lines perking up the ears. It’s the kind of style which makes Silk Royal such a class act when it comes to progressive music full of emotion and depth. Another truly exceptional track on Jacob’s mix is Tom Fall’s ‘Dive’, a record enriched with relaxing melodies to melt away the ear drums. There is a vocal moment in the mix with Aeron Aether & Mango’s perky bass line layered collaboration with the Civil Servants. The Civil Servants is in fact a joint project with Jacob and his partner who wrote and performed the vocals for the track. There are a few deeper moods as the mix reaches its climax from Sean Marx and Kazusa polishing off Jacob’s excellent mix.

Tom Fall’s production skills are not one to question, especially if you enjoyed his first track on Jacob’s mix ‘Dive’ as much as I did. After hearing this mix you won’t have any doubt over his mixing skills as he’s put an inviting blend of progressive flavours together with some uplifting moments and echo fuelled vocal lines spread across his track selection. You get a lighter mood on the whole with Tom’s mix here as he steps up the energy just a touch with some big hitting melodies and key changes. Leading the way with his attack are tracks from Matt Lange, Ad Brown, Schodt, Terry Da Libra, Mango and Jacob Henry. He features Schodt’s bubbling emotional vocal masterpiece ‘White Tiger’ with a complimenting vocal from his fiancée Aida Fenhel. The bass line is doing all the work on this track with bright and vibrant keys touched behind the vocal. Where the first mix I think shows off the progressive house side of things this mix from Tom drops the uplifting side of Silk’s arsenal with a relaxed trance flavour to the music. I can’t knock a track that doesn’t impress the ear drum with the eleven Tom has seamlessly slid together here; a few of which already have been unleashed on the Silk label. Mango’s ‘Good morning’ is just one of a few already released on the label you should have really put through its paces by now. Tom drops the Sunn Jellie remix here which is brimmed full of energetic sweeps, chords and a free flowing atmospheric bass line enhanced with a harmonic vocal line.

The two mixes really show the diverse range of sound the label has to offer and while the single releases so far may have just offered a bite this compilation gives you the full cake. What genre? Who care’s, this is beautiful, emotional and inspiring electronic dance music from Silk Royal and a highlight of what talent Jacob Henry and Tom Fall really are. I’ve loved the single releases from Silk for the past twelve months and some of those favourites from last year are all in here along with a snippet of new music to come in 2011.

Conclusion:
You will find progressive genius all over the two discs here that display just what Silk Royal’s music is all about. Jacob Henry and Tom Fall have chosen only the very finest electronic cuts for this stunning debut into the compilation market for Silk Royal Records. If you think Anjunadeep is the only progressive album to bother about before Spring you are very much mistaken. This showcase is nothing short of essential.
