He's been synonymous with Discover Records for the past ten years but today John Askew's time with the label is up. He's leaving the Recoverworld group for a new position at Perfecto Records...
When you think Discover Records you immediately think of John Askew. He's been the leader and A&R for Discover with Chris Hampshire for the past ten years. It’s a partnership that you would have never though to be severed but the big news from Recoverworld HQ today is that John Askew has left the label. What are the reasons behind this departure? Well, he’s off to join Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label in a new role which has not been announced but I can imagine it will be very similar to his work with Discover. I would say the lure of a brand name like Perfecto and the chance to thrust trance back into a label which has been not at its best in recent years was to much to pass on. It’s a big coop for Perfecto and a drive forward after their tie in with Armada last year. Where does this leave Discover and Recoverworld? They are as strong as ever and while John will no longer be an employee of the label he will still be an artist as they have said he will continue to release tracks with them.
Replacing John is a very adapt trance talent in Rob Stevenson, aka Activa! He’s a talent who has come into the scene with a thrusting audio arsenal and after his debut artist album on Discover ‘This World’ enhancing his reputation as one of the scene’s most promising producers, he is ecstatic with his new role at Discover. What for John Askew’s role at Perfecto? Only the next few months will tell but you know the kind fro music John likes and you can be sure he will be injecting that into Perfecto. Hey, maybe we will have a collaboration with Paul Oakenfold? Only time will tell. The official announcement came through Recoverworld’s website a few hours ago and they wish John all the best in his new position at Perfecto.
RECOVERWORLD ANNOUNCEMENT Our big news this week is that after 10 very successful years, John Askew is leaving Discover to take up a new position at Perfecto. We wish him every success and thank him for his hard work and dedication. We will all miss him very much and are now looking forward, more than ever, to our party on the 26th March in Brighton which will now also become John's official farewell party. Production wise John still plans to continue making tracks for the label and of course we will bring you more news of this when we have it.
John's A&R role with Discover has been passed over to Rob "Activa" Stevenson. Rob is excited to be taking this over and we are also delighted as we have always viewed Rob as John 's natural successor.
Gary Maguire will be taking over the A&R for Discover Dark. Again, we are delighted that one of our current team is able to step straight into John's shoes and continue the legacy. Keep an eye on our website and newsletter for further information - its going to be a busy few weeks :-)
