Many of us have heard of Marc O'tool and the quality productions he has continuously offered us. He has produced tracks which have been played from all the top djs, and has remixed tracks for DJ Tiesto, Angelic, Tall Paul+INXS. He gave us an exclusive interview to comment on his current situation...and those people who should not be forgotten!... so here it is>>>
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interview
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q.How old were you when you got into music? A.I was 12 and tried to make some noise when i loop a part of a Phill Collins song with a Casio sk-1 mini sampler.
Q.What made you get into music seriously..? A.by accident!!!
Q.Who gave you your first record deal? A.In 1993 a friend gave a tape to Torsten Stenzel the producer of Taucher,York.... he was freelancer a&r at Boy records.
Q.What labels are you associated with now? A.My own labels: Underworld recordings and Mauritius Poison records,Various music, Maelstrom,Tune Inn,Lost Language..............................
Q.Where did you go clubbing? A.I am happy when I have a free weekend! I love clubs, but when you are an activist since 10 years in the dance scene you don´t have the desire to party.:)
Q.What djs did you listen to then..and now? A.I loved listening to Robert Hood, Sven Väth, Jeff Mills and all the other techno an house heroes in the early days. Today there are so many talented dj's I can`t decide which one I like most.
Q.What is your favourite track now? A.SIAs Drink to get drunk (different gear remix) !!!!
Q.What is your favourite track ever? A.Olav Basoski´s “House of wood”!
Q.What is your best remix? A.The best remix I did is a Marc O`Tool remix of Krüger& Coyle “the witness” on acdc records.
Q.What have you got up and coming in the near future? A.My new single will be released on Poison records. The Criss Source single is coming.. The first release of my new label Mauritius. It will be released at first on the well-known UK Label Tune Inn records. Q.Who are the best guys you have worked with in the industry? A.My publisher Michael Zosel a man with a lot of experience in the music business he is always there to help me. Then there´s the a&r of my home label, Sven Palzer, a very talentet managment type of guy and Farid of Various recording is a very good partner as well.
Q.Do you play dj sets? if so where? A.I will play some festivals in germay and diferent gigs in russia, denmark, Scandinavia,South America....
Q.What equipment do you use to produce your tracks? A.In the last years I go to work more and more with my harddisk system! But to get the real punch I use a lot of anlalouge dynamic poccesors.....! My favourite synth is the roland jp-8000!
Q.Is there a basic guide of how to produce a track? A.No!My experience is that every track starts from another base.
Q.Do you get "inspirations" for tracks or do you just take it as it comes? A.I need minimum one week break between the productions to get some new ideas.I then do the thinks like clear my office, e-mail interwiews...:), wash my car, do my hobby-bicycle and thinks like that, in the meanwhile.
Q.What comments would you give to any up and coming producers? A.Check that your sound does not hurt somebodys ears!:) If you believe in you........work hard, hope and someday will be your day!
Q.Who did you look to when you were starting out? A.Depeche Mode................. in the beginning, now and for ever!
