After the latest instalment of his city compilation series the next album from Markus Schulz will be a remixed and refreshed look at his last artist album 'Do You Dream?' He's compiled some very big names for the remixes to...
I can imagine the inside of Markus Schulz's mind to be a very busy one, if it’s anywhere near as busy as his workload over the past few months it will be. He's currently on the road spinning tracks from his latest compilation series 'Prague 11' which was released a few weeks ago. Two discs of European inspired trance from Markus as he delivered what may well be his best in the series yet. One thing that was missing from the compilation was a track from Markus, not counting his reconstruction of Arofoil’s ‘Caress 2 Impress’ track and Snatt & Vix’s ‘Cold Shower’. Well, maybe he’s been saving those for a rainy day but if you need a reminder of Markus supreme production prowess then it’s here!
The remix album has been like the dotcom boom of 1999 in recent years with everybody getting in on the action. Not that we are having a moan about it though, far from it. The only burst in this latest one will be a tweeter as you crank it up. ‘Do You Dream’ was the last artist deliver from Markus and a bloody good one at that! Each track should have been a good base for the remixes chosen for the album to do something special with. Looking at who he has on show for the album you won’t be short a speciality or two with the likes of Ferry Corsten, Super8 & Tab, Mr Pit, DNS Project, Phynn and Mike Foyle on show. My favourite track from the album ‘Perception’ is superbly remixed by Super8 & Tab, which is a mix already out as it was released on the single EP. The ones that were not are all in here. It’s out on the 1st April (No joke) on Armada and you can check out the full press release here along with the tracklist. Oh, and one good thing if you have yet to check out Markus album yet – for shame if you have not! – is that the package will have the original tracks included as part of the two disc release, now we do like that! At the start of 2010 Miami’s Markus Schulz embarked on his most challenging career year to date. 12 months on he’d played a mammoth 150 gigs, resulting in him cementing his no.8 position in DJ Mag’s Top 100 for the third successive year running.
The fuel powering this whirlwind tour schedule was his third artist album - the critically-acclaimed 'Do You Dream?'
Following 'Prague ’11' (the sixth album in his outstanding City compilation series) and in advance of his second Dakota long-player this summer, Markus is now ready to present 'Do You Dream? -The Remixes'. Each and every one of the 16 tracks from the original album have been given an imaginative, wide-screen remix treatment, with each remix act carefully assigned a particular tune in order to best demonstrate their unique interpretation of Markus’ sound.
Getting it underway is Mike Foyle who club-primes the mystical-sounding (and much-talked-about) intro track 'Alpha State'. From there the journey moves into brooding, atmospheric waters, with the inimitable haunting basslines of Cosmic Gate, who rework the Sir Adrian vocalled 'Away'. The euphoria of Las Vegas anthem ‘Rain' is elevated to stadium sized intensity thanks to Phynn and there are more Dutch remixers hot on his heels too. Ferry Corsten, Jochen Miller, and Carlo ‘4Strings’ Resoort all deliver energetic bursts on ‘Do You Dream’, ‘Dark Heart Waiting’ and ‘Not The Same’ respectively.
Upcoming duo Karanda turn ‘Last Man Standing’ into a fission-powered club track, whilst the always-affecting ‘Surreal’ gets deeper still thanks to the fresh, distinguished sounds of the brothers Moonbeam.
Finnish pair Super8 & Tab deliver an outstanding rework of all-time Schulz favourite ‘Perception’ while Tenishia gives ‘Lifted’ a distinctly clubby re-rub. And who could forget arguably Markus’ biggest track to date, ‘The New World’, remixed in tough, pounding fashion by Austrians Barnes & Heatcliff.
Inspired by drum n’ bass stalwarts such as Aphrodite from his days living in London, Markus himself turns to remix duty for the album, supplying the chilled ‘Lightwave’ with a classic club feel. Likewise he gives his ‘Unsaid’ collaboration with the wonderful ‘Nothing at All’ vocalist Susana big room appeal. Mr. Pit adds a new dimension to ‘65.4Hz’ with a unique mix of tech and melody and ‘What Could Have Been’ is lent a vintage Coldharbour feel by Tucandeo. That just leaves the final word to Estonia’s DNS Project, who ends the CD on a euphoric high note with ‘Goodbye’.
‘Do You Dream? – The Remixes’ is a true reflection of not only Markus Schulz’s production sound, but also of his Coldharbour Recordings label, his Global DJ Broadcast radio show and his outstanding live-set performances. Judging by the reactions to each of the remixes which have been entered the public domain so far this journey will be as enticing as the original album. TRACKLISTING
