We've not been stuffing microphones under the chins of joggers in the local park before you say anything but taken time out to sit down with rising russian trance star Running Man, otherwise known as Vladimir Kolesnikov...
There is a new name to keep an ear out for on the Russian trance circuit and he goes by the name of ‘Running Man’. It is the birth child of Vladimir Kolesnikov who comes from St Petersburg and has set his stall out to be one of the biggest breakthrough trance artists in 2011. There is a lot of stuff competition for that title to with so many new producers releasing some superb new trance; the scene is really on the up at the moment. We had the pleasure of one of his latest efforts on Breathe Recordings a few weeks ago with the superb ‘Shine’. It was the labels second release of the year and I’m sure won’t be the first time they call on Vladimir’s skills to present a new track. Ever the nosy sods, we thought it was due time we had a word with this promising new Russia, who aside from trance has a liking for U2.
i:Vibes: Vladimir thanks for taking some time to talk to i:Vibes.nu. You are 28 years old, but first started to produce in 2009. Why did trance catch your taste so late?
Vladimir: I've being listening to trance music since 2002 but in 2009 i decided to make my own tracks. I think trance is the most beautiful and intelligent music we have.
i:Vibes: Solarstone is one of your trance inspirations. What makes this artist so unique for you?
Vladimir: I remember the day when i heard 'Destination' and 'U Write The Rules' for the first time. These tracks were amazing. After that i paid some attention to trance. 'Solarcoaster' still remains one of my favourite track of all time.
i:Vibes: What was your childhood like and when did you exactly start to like trance music?
Vladimir: In my childhood I preferred to listen to rock music like U2 and Linkin Park.
i:Vibes: How has your sound developed since the Fantastic Voyage EP?
Vladimir: Fantastic Voyage was my first track. After that I had a bit more experience and my sound became more progressive.
i:Vibes: You produced "Legacy" for the label of Talla 2XLC Tetsuo. How pleased were with this track and how was the feedback from Tetsuo?
Vladimir: Tetsuo is great label. It was good experience to release 'Legacy' on it. 'Para X' (Tetsuo A&R) likes this track and even made a remix.
i:Vibes: You have been signing many of your tracks to different labels. How did contact come to Breathe label?
Vladimir: I've being listening to many tracks from Breathe music and like them so much. So i decided to send my demo to this label. Also I was really impressed by the track 'Sunrise' of Andre Visior & Kay Stone.
i:Vibes: What makes Breathe such a unique label to work with?
Vladimir: Firstly i want to thank all Breathe team for their help. And i also think that this label really cares about their artists. You’d better believe it that these guys will find good remixers for your tracks and do their best to promote your music.
i:Vibes: You will be releasing Shine as Running Man soon. Is there a particular reason for the name of this project? I am sure you can run a long way in Russia before seeing a person? :)
Vladimir: 'Running man' is my main project but actually I do not like to run. I just think that this is original and remembered.
i:Vibes: Shine is a very beautiful track. What was your goal behind this track?
Vladimir: I wanted to use guitar in my new tune. Some of my tracks had a guitar lead but i think this one is the most beautiful I ever made.
i:Vibes: What was the most difficult thing that you had to get right with Shine so it sounded perfect for you?
Vladimir: It was uneasy to mixdown 'Shine' perfect. Especially I was unable to make a perfect mixdown but with the help of Tino and Christian from Breathe a great mixdown was archieved at the end.
i:Vibes: What was your inspiration behind "Amber beach"?
Vladimir: When I produced this track I wanted to try out myself in progressive sound. I've being listening many progressive tunes at that time and decided to make something for the dancefloor. So we have 'Amber Beach'.
i:Vibes: How pleased are you with the Estiva remix for Shine?
Vladimir: Estiva is great artist. He made progressive remix on Shine. This one turned out brilliant!!
i:Vibes: You have said that you don’t care if you produce one or ten tracks a year as long as it blows you away. Does "Shine" blow you away?
Vladimir: Yes:) Shine is my favourite track at the moment.
i:Vibes: When you are in the studio is there a certain way how you go about producing a track. Some producers will start with a baseline or a melody. How do you do it?
Vladimir: When I am producing my music I’m always starting with the main melody or pad. I think this is the base of each track.
i:Vibes: What else can we expect from you in 2011?
Vladimir: More beautiful trance music of cause :) I'm working on another project. But this is a secret so far :)
i:Vibes: What is your overall impression of the German trance scene? What artists do you respect?
Vladimir: Trance Art is my favourite artist at the moment. I'm really big fan of this producer.
i:Vibes: With what producer would you like to be locked away with in the studio for 24 hours?
Vladimir: I think this is Sean Tyas or Trance Arts.
i:Vibes: What are your current 5 favourite tracks?
