© Trance NationThe Trance Nation series makes a very welcome return this summer with the Ministry of Sound handing the reigns opver to Dutch legends Rank 1...

For many the original Trance Nation compilations go down as the albums which got them hooked into the sound. They were for me that’s for sure. The originals mixed by Ferry Corsten came at a time when the genre was blowing up everywhere. It was all over the radio, magazines and even the TV with a stream of compilations and albums hitting the music stores in a format you might remember called CD. The Trance Nation series was one of the best, especially the first four which Ferry Corsten had full control over the tracklist. After that its fair to say the Ministry of Sound destroyed the image of the series by releasing the most cheese ridden garbage that disgraced the genre and quite frankly was an insult to trance fans. After all that rubbish they tried to put some respect back into the series, they even got Judge Jules to mix one of the later editions but the damage had already been done.

It was not until a year or so ago when they announced the return of the series that they have begun to rebuild the brand by putting proper trance on there by the scenes biggest artists. They begun with the mighty Above & Beyond and followed that up with another stunning edition from Andy Moor last year. The powers that be behind the Ministry have finally got things all right in the world of Trance Nation. The god news is they are continuing this with the latest edition that will be mixed by trance legends Rank 1, who have been producing for well over a decade and were part of the 99 trance boom with tracks like ‘Airwave’ and ‘The Awakening’. They will be bringing the class of today’s trance acts on the latest two disc mix compilation with new tunes from Sander van Doorn, Armin van Buuren, Jochen Miller, Signum and Bryan Kearney. It’s a compilation Rank 1 (aka iet Bervoets & Benno de Goeij,) were very honoured to take on.

"We feel really honoured that Ministry of Sound asked us to compile and mix an edition of the famous Trance Nation series. We’re guessing we’ve been featured a couple of times, but now we’re actually behind the controls. We tried to get across how trance is ever evolving, as many trance djs are blending other styles into their sets. Trance people are – and always have been – really open minded and so it’s great to see how young producers introduce other styles into their sound, which makes trance music still a very exciting genre.”
