His name is Benzido and his first single is called Musique Non Stop, but that’s all the information you’ll get about this elusive producer.

Anonymity in music can be an intelligent move if you have the musical ability to back it up. There’s cut-up artist Jaguar Skills, who is never seen without his ninja mask. Or Aphex Twin, and his habit of releasing projects under multiple pseudonyms. These tactics encourage speculation and conversations about identify, whilst allowing the artists themselves to retain an element of privacy.

So is new kid on the block Benzido able to deliver the goods? To keep quiet about your identity and achieve success the music really does have to speak for itself. Fortunately in Benzido’s case his music doesn’t just speak, it shouts from the rooftops. Musique Non Stop is a noisy, insistent brat of a track that demands your full attention.

The acidy undertones and the pounding rhythms are artfully constructed and evidence of some truly solid production skills. Benzido deftly adds layer upon layer until the tune hits its apex, the robotic voice sample kicks in and the tune begins to build for its big finale. With this track Benzido demonstrates himself to be a master of timing, teasing out the drop for exactly the amount of time necessary to ensure a listening crowd will go completely ape when the bass kicks in.

Whoever Benzido is, he is in good company. Not only is Can You Feel It Records a known entity for breaking new talent, the Musique Non Stop remixes comes courtesy of Youri Donatz and Funkerman.

Donatz is a rising star who is now making the inevitable transition to established and respected artist. He puts a funky spin on the track that balances the original’s harder edge perfectly. Funkerman needs no introduction, and his presence on this release is a definitive mark of quality and a great sign that this new artist will go far.

Benzido’s debut is a stunner, plain and simple. Out now on Can You Feel It Records, it should be savoured this summer as the world tries to uncover just who this artist might be.
