Reach for the skies with Giuseppe Ottaviani’s brand new compilation themed from his very popular radio show ‘GO On Air’. Twenty of the Italian’s finest hand crafted for a thunderous mix…
Ever since he came onto the scene as one half of Nu NRG Giuseppe Ottaviani has always has a unique sound with trance. The end of Nu NRG marked the beginning for Giuseppe as his career really took off when he started knocking out his solo productions. Thanks to a very strong partnership with Paul van Dyk’s VANDIT label and Paul himself his records have been allowed to free flow over sound systems all across the globe. His solo artist path took a new direction in 2009 with the appearance of ‘GO’ on VANDIT. It was the first of I’m sure many artist collections that will showcase the ever developing sound and creativity this hugely talented musician has at his powers. What can you expect from this mix then? It’s nothing along the lines of his LIVE shows but more of a taste of the full on club experience Giuseppe can push out to liven up even the most subdued dance floor.

While there may be a few calling for the end of the CD mix compilation as we have known it for the past fifteen years I think there is still room for it in today’s ever evolving digital music scene. 80 Minutes might not be enough time for a few artists to cram all their creative energy into but when you’ve a banging hangover, the house to tidy and your own washing to do it’s just the hurry up you need to get you arse into gear. The 80 minutes that Giuseppe has packed in here will certainly do that with a blend of uplifting and vocal trance capturing some pumping beats and gorgeous melodies. I’m not to sure where Giuseppe got the airline theme from as the cover does make him look to be a porn star from the 80’s. It’s not the pictures that will get you excited here though but the erotic music.
This is a mix heavily influenced by Giuseppe as you might tell by glancing at the tracklist. He’s put a lot of his own remixes and edit’s in here to make them fit in with the mood he wants to capture with the whole mix. That’s not a bad thing to have though lets be honest as his remixes are usually pretty bang on. The opening of the mix reminds me a little bit of that old track by Balearic Bill from the 90’s with an announcement theme getting you prepared for take off. The opening few records on here will get you lifting off that’s for sure. Just for example take the powerful vocal of Jan Martin with the Beat Service’s uplifting remix of ‘Save Me Now’. How he got there from the rough and tumble of Mike Koglin vs Genix’s ‘Helion’ is quite neat with qa shift in tone you notice after the break finishes. Hidden further on into the mix is some classic Giuseppe material. Just take a moment to absorb the stirrings in his remix of ‘Rosaires’ by Aly & Fila. It reminds me of his earlier records. His brand new single follows on from there with ‘GO On Air’. This track takes things on a more aggressive stance and the main riff is one you’re going to lap up by the beat load. The main kick drum is deep, powerful and whacks out a right bang to tap your feet to.
They say a mix compilation is only as good as the tracks on it but thankfully with an artist like Giuseppe you’re not going to find any bad ones. With the likes of Tom Colontonio, Aerospace, Paul Webster, Armin van Buuren and A.R.D.I. on the back end of a mix you know its going to be something pretty special. After a mid mix of hard edge melodies in a style that Giuseppe does so well, the back end of the mix drops a vocal euphoric touch to send you up to the skies even higher. This is a mix that never wants to come down but with the constraints of a compact dies it inevitable has to. It’s a good job most players have a repeat button then because your going to use it with this mix.
Conclusion:
While you might not feel safe if Giuseppe Ottaviani was behind the cockpit, at least you would have something to take you mind off it with this super hot mix of uplifting trance. There are many compilations out there at the moment but Giuseppe has dropped an edge on this one and looking at it you might thing he’s arrogant only having one disc, but this trance master only needs the one to get it spot! Go and get and take some AIR!
