It’s the final update from Roger Shah of 2011 with Mr Balearic still riding high in the charts with his latest singles ‘Hide U and ‘Morning Star’. Also announced are his Talenthouse competition winners and a look forward to his NYE gig in Poland…
Having open many a mind with his latest artist album ‘Openminded?’ Roger Shah can look back at 2011 being a very good year for the man whose Balearic tones have tickled many an ear drum all over the world. While his latest artist offering moved towards something slightly different the Roger melody magic is still there. His album tour has been sensational with live keyboards in their abundance. You can have a little look back at his gigs for Armada and Ministry of Sound below as well as everything else you need to know before the sun sets on another year.
‘Hide U’ and ‘Morning Star’ Storm The Charts!
‘Hide U’ - Roger and Sian Kosheen’s update of the turn-of-the-century club classic - has gone top 5 on the UK’s club charts! Since its release the track has built, week on week into one of Roger’s biggest ever single releases. Over in continental Europe meanwhile it’s ‘Morning Star’ that’s been hitting highs. The Moya Brennan vocalled floor-hypnotiser has been doing much the same to the airwaves! In Roger’s home country of Germany the track's has hit the #1 spot on national dance station Sunshine Live’s airplay chart, paving the way for it to become one of central Europe’s biggest EDM radio hits of the year! If you’ve not yet caught the Hide U and Morning Star bug yet , there’s where! Roger Remixes Bryan Adams, Loverush UK and Greece 2000
It's been a period of intensive remix action for Roger over the last 5 weeks. First up onto the studio desk was the new track from Bryan Adams. The legendary singer collaborated on his new single with LoverushUK!, who in turn dialled Roger's remix line for some rework support on 'Tonight In Babylon'. So happy were LoverushUK! was the result that they Immediately asked Roger for a return visit on their 'Give Me Your Love' release. The track/remix (which features Shah favourite Carla Werner on vocals) will be out on Black Hole shortly. Last and by no means least, Roger has given a Pumpin'-by-name, pumping-by-nature rework to Three Drives evergreen, always-welcome 'Greece 2000', which is out through Armada on the 28th of Nov! Talenthouse Dance With Me Remix Comp Winners
In late summer, in conjunction with US-based company TalentHouse, Roger launched a search to find some great new production talent. The task: take the track stems for Dance With Me track (taken from Openminded!? album) and create as inventive, imaginative, polished and floor-worthy remix as possible. On offer: a prominent position on the track's release thru Armada Records, eternal glory and just maybe a first step for a career in dance music! The competition drew entries in their 100s and caused Roger and Talenthouse many a late night working through them! Such was the quality level, that three were eventually selected for the Inger Hansen-vocalled monster's final release. So stand up and take a bow Vinny, Markus Engel and iContact, all of who's will all be featuring on it. Release info will be in the next Roger Shah Newscast!
Roger In DJ Mag's Top 100 for The 4th Consecutive Year!
Last month, in the surroundings of the goliath Passenger Terminal events arena in Amsterdam, EDM fans and industry alike gathered to watch DJ Mag count down their top 100 DJs for 2011. Roger was delighted to shoot back into the rundown for his fourth consecutive year running. It goes without saying (but he's going to anyway!) that Roger extends his heartfelt thanks to every one of you who voted for him! It means an enormous amount to the big guy and always will! You can read Roger's interview with the magazine here where he talks about the last 12 months. In the same issue, he's also done the mag's Lucky Seven feature, where he picks out some of his earliest musical close encounters. Check that out by pointing your mouse here.
On The Road: The Openminded!? Tour Rolls On!
Over the last 5 months Roger has been to all four points of the compass, bringing the music from Openminded!? to the open minded! Of late, having re-smashed the Ministry of Sound (after his April debut at The Gallery) in early October, the night after Top 100 he used it to rock Armada's label night event at Passenger Terminal. From there he voyaged further afield landing in Azerbaijan to play a special keyboard gig at the Hilton in Baku and then (hitting the album's Latin rhythms hard!) onto Buenos Aries and Cordoba in Argentina. You can check gig highlights from all those events by clicking the applicable link above. On the imediate horizon Roger will be heading to the heart of the Big Apple on the 25th of November to play the Massive Event 5th Anniversary in NYC, before crossing over into Canada to rock the Edmonton Events Centre on the 26th. Into December and it gets spicier still, with a date at the Six Flags resort in Mexico city and a Mumbai/Dehli/Bangalore trifecta mid-month. NYE 2011: Roger In Poland
Seeing 2011 off in just about the finest style possible, Roger will be at playing in Poland this NYE. He's prepping up to bring roadblock to the mightily massive I Love New Years Eve event which takes place at the Centennial Hall in the country's new dance capital of Wroclaw. He'll be headlining this year's event and with able bodied deck support from the likes of Chocolate Puma, Kyau & Albert, Orjan Nilsen and Marcus Schossow, this year's will not be one to miss. If you felt like joining Roger for one mutha of a party, well he'd be made up to see you there!
