In December 2011, Mumbai Science announced the release of a trio of EPs - a homage to all their heroes, promising to be a journey through modern dance history...
“All good things come in threes. We're proud to present the Unified Theory. A Trilogy of EPs in 3 months.” Now, four months later, they present the ‘Unified Theory’ vinyl picture disc, featuring the highlights of the trilogy and incredible artwork. From January to March, Mumbai Science have been releasing three consecutive digital EPs, played and supported by artists including Tiga, Boys Noize and Brodinski to name a few. The duo play with psychedelic 90s trance sounds, Detroit techno rhythms, acid bass lines and new beat vocal stabs. When listening to the tracks you can definitely feel influences from older dance records, however, Mumbai Science remains fresh, pushing and breaking the boundaries of contemporary dance music, making music that looks forward. Mumbai Science now bring ‘Unified Theory’ out on a limited edition picture disc, featuring four tracks, the highlights from all three 'Unified Theory' EPs: ‘Researchers’ is a ridiculous blend between Giorgio Moroder, De-Waele-Techno and French Electro. ‘Reality’ taps into the new high-energy-techno-sub-genre that is ‘Future Techno’. Think repetitive melodies and futuristic percussion. ‘Alchemy’ exemplifies the playful nature of the duo, mixing mellow house melodies with a strong drop that reminds of the Hacker or - more recent - Gesaffelstein. Lastly, ‘Transcendence’ shows Mumbai Science's versatility. While today's techno-electro scene - the children of Ed Banger and BNR - seem to be allergic to all what is trance, Mumbai Science explores its nuances in ‘Transcendence’, a track that features a monologue from LSD-guru Timothy Leary. But there is more to the ‘Unified Theory’ than the music alone. The artwork bares meaning as well. Each of the three parts portrays one of the three Hindu Gods of Creation. Part 1 shows Brahma, the creator of this material universe. Part 2 shows Vishnu, the preserver and Part 3 depicts Shiva, the destroyer. The picture disc shows the three gods in a circle, symbolizing the never-ending cycle of life. It’s small things like this that demonstrate Mumbai Science’s eye for detail. ‘Unified Theory’ limited vinyl picture disc will be out on April 2nd. There are only 500 copies, so make sure to grab one!
