For all you breaks lovers out there:here is an exclusive piece of news striaght from Rennie Pilgrems own label (TCR)... we have been sent a press release of Rennie's imminent and much awaited "tribalizm" >>get a snippet of the mood of the album!
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: "Rennie Pilgrem Tribalizm
Label: TCR Album Rel. Date: 22nd April 2002 Cat No: RENNCD008
From the label that brought you Muzik magazines 3rd Best Single Of The Year with Rennie Pilgrem & BLIM’s ‘Eskimo’, please find enclosed a selection of the very finest breakbeat cuts around, selected by the don dadda himself; Rennie Pilgrem. Released on TCR & entitled Tribalizm, this is Rennie’s first mix album for three years.
As the title suggests and the attached will prove, this reflects Rennie’s current musical output and dj style leaning heavily on the percussive/tribal sound. Track by track, check the line up and experience the sounds every dance DJ is clambering to get his/her hands on:
First up is Chris Carter with ‘Random Factors’ – arguably his finest ever outing; combining his love of filmic breaks with his new found DJ sensibility. Next, is the deep sci-fi breaks of Waveform & Crash with ‘Systems Online’. Featured on the vinyl sampler Meat Katie & Rennie Pilgrem deliver ‘Atmosphere’; atmospheric, (naturally!) with eerie strings, spooky vocals, driving beats, rumbling bass and lots of dubby effects. Also on the 12” is ‘Face It’ by Arthur Baker & Rennie Pilgrem (Rennie Pilgrem New York Mix) a track originally produced for Baker’s album on Perfecto, which has been tweaked and tripped out by Pilgrem for the dancefloor. Percussive with a NYC flavour courtesy of some male and female vocals.
Going solo, track 5 sees Meat Katie heading production on the quality tribal workout that is Next Life, (Buddha Bowl Original). Vigi & Zero is next in the mix with ‘Others’ - Another welcome return and another ‘Eskimo’ steal; this one is a driving groover. Beatmasters, Koma & Bones’ deliver‘High Rollin’’ (Rennie Pilgrem Remix) a tribal, steppy mix of this club smasher while 2Sinners and their other half of Mr. Jingles - ‘Mrs. Jingles’, come with a bassline that’ll relieve you of your lunch, quality.
Uberzone’s ‘Bounce’ (Rennie Pilgrem & BLIM Secret Mix) is an exclusive of West Coast genius Uberzone’s latest single. A big tune at San Fran’s Eklektic is DJ Who’s ‘Crusher’ (Pilgrem Edit) where Pilgrem’s exclusive re-edit, marrying house and breaks, produces a right old stompathon; Rennie Pilgrem & BLIM’s ‘Monkfish’ – see the guys team up for another percussion-led monster while Koma & Bones ‘Morpheus’ (Rennie Pilgrem Remix) is quite possibly one of the largest breaks tunes of the moment.
They just keep coming… Rennie Pilgrem & Uberzone with ‘Black Widow’ (VIP Remix) is Rennie’s reworking of the original tribal breaks track. A sound that echoes the feel and vibe of the album; littered with top quality percussive licks and bouncing breaks. Finally Koma & Bones’ Remix of Kosheen’s ‘Hide U’ - brings us the very best from the three man outfit from the NorthWest. Play loud for maximum effect.
Take it all in… Rennie Pilgrem’s – Tribalizm is released on TCR on 22nd April 2002."
Thanks to Pippa for this!! Keep informed for more news coming soon....and something extra...>>>
