It’s back once again, the DJ Mag Top 100 poll with the ballot boxes open for voting today. It’s the poll every DJ wants to win and one which always causes debate within the dance community…
It’s that time of year again where every DJ page, newsletter, banner and social media outlet bombards you with an invitation to vote for them in the DJ Mag Top 100. The magazine has been running the poll since 1997 when Carl Cox was champagne as the number one DJ in the world. If you look back on the history of the poll it has only been won by 8 DJ’s over its 16 year period which include Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, John Digweed, Tiesto, Paul van Dyk, David Guetta and Armin van Buuren who has won it a record five times.
There have been voting scams over the years and the credibility of the poll is one which is always under question, does it really reflect who is the greatest, or just who has the best marketing team. The latter theory may well explain why Armin has won it so many times with his constant promotion of his ‘A State Of Trance’ events. Just when 600 are finished, the marketing campaign begins for 650. While the poll is less respected than it was ten years ago, it still is one which draws a lot of attention.
Weather you like it or not, the DJ Mag top 100 is back and voting has begun. You can cast your vote using the Facebook application. I wonder how many profiles get created just for the purpose of voting this year. We shall see, cast you vote below.
