Junior label treat us to a brieft history lesson-and some associations that we may not have known before now!!

Question>what year did Junior start out?

Answer>"the label was set up in the late eighties. originally the label was called boy's own and was spawned from a fanzine of the same name. boy's own released music from the likes of one dove (dot allison's first band), booca juniors (andrew weatherall, terry farley and pete heller), a few fantastic italian house records and some classic house from the likes of steve 'silk' hurley. from there came junior boy's own. home to the dust brothers (now chemical brothers), underworld, x-press 2, farley and heller (and all their various guises) and many many more. now we have junior, fuju and the new label appalooso. new people, new music and all going really really well. "

Question>How did it all come about?

Answer>"it all came from parties and the fanzine first of all. a love of clubs and people making fantastic music because they really believed in it. that idyllic acid house perspective on the world. great ideas coming from messy sessions around someones house after a club at five o'clock in the morning with the sun coming up. "

Question>what was the first release for Junior?

Answer>"boy's own : booca juniors 'raise'
junior boy's own : fire island 'in your bones'
junior : pete heller's big love : big love"

Question>how well did this do compared to what you thought?

Answer>"i think it has always gone far better than anyone believed it would purely down to the fact that everyone has always done things for the right reason."

Question>Whats been your most successful release?

Answer>"too many for different reasons. you can look at the first underworld album or 'born slippy' maybe... there are other records that were critically acclaimed which sometimes mean just as much as sales.. "

Questions>Your tracks are in the progressive house vein-is this the soul genre for the label?

Answer>"we don't really see it like that i have to say. it's always house to us. our records should always have some sort of soul and funk to them. we've always released anything we like from hip hop to techno. we don't really go for genres as a label. "

Question>What artists are associated with you label?

Answer>"pete heller, terry farley, underworld, king unique, peace division, futureshock, john ciafone (from mood II swing), yousef and paul woolford's 10,000 BC, new york's johnny dangerous and many many more. "

Question>Whats to come in the future?

Answer>"a new album from underworld which is sounding amazing, a futureshock album that is also ace, an album from king unique/dirty, new 12's from pete heller, terry, john ciafone and loads and laods of others."

Question>Any news internally on the label?

Answer>"no."

Question>Have you any "sister" labels we should look out for?

Answer>"fuju and appalooso. fuju is a label i run with futureshock that releases the likes of peace division (the classic 'feel my drums'), mainframe (matt from king unique - look out for his new one 'blue'), robbie riviera, ashley casselle and christopher and of course futureshock. appalooso is very very new and just coming together at the moment. the next release sidekick's 'tricks' is already causing a bit of a storm with likes of seb fontaine and many others..."

Answer>"er, the website...... thats a bit ongoing. we're being a bit slow on that one. it will be up hopefuly in about a month - the ideal for us is that there is information on the label and what we've done in the past for those that are interested but more importantly for me there will be a place for people to hear snippets of new releases as well as a discussion board to discuss whatever you like. i'd like to creat some sort of forum for intellgient folk to come and have their say.."
