There had been stories and indications that Passion legend JFK may well return for the clubs final few events at the Emporium which will close its doors in January 2014 due to financial difficulties. JFK issued a statement today to set the record straight…
The list of casualties from the super club boon still continues to tot up. The Emporium has been the home of Passion and its harder Storm nights for some considerable years with JFK putting the night on the map in its early days. The announcement earlier this year that the Passion was to be no more was sad news for clubbers. I indeed have very fond memories of the Storm vs. Passion nights and rated them the very best you could find in the UK, if not around the world. Money is money though and although the Passion may still be there it is that crucial factor which is not.
Following on from the announcement the club is to close they announced three final farewell parties for Passion and Storm. The first two have been and gone to sold out club nights. For the final two Passion events, the finale being on the 25th January there were rumours that its most legendary artists was to return for one final hurrah! JFK is what made passion and his break from the club in 2009 is very similar to why he will not be playing at their final party in January. JFK issued a statement today to clear the situation up once and for all.
JFK STATEMENT IN FULL
On Saturday August 30th 2013 I was contacted by one of the former owners of The Emporium (Eric Schofield) who was helping out the current owners whom had recently suffered some difficulties.
I was asked to help promote and participate in the planned final events at The Emporium.
After a meeting on Sept 4th 2013 I shook hands on an agreement with the current owners on a deal which included certain guarantees and a financial deal and I happily signed up for the last two events.
I sent over our agreement via contract and after chasing the owners for a return of the signed contract for five days I was informed that they had changed their minds on the agreement. I offered to play for free but I still wanted the other non financial guarantees which formed part of the contract.
The Emporium owners declined.
The nature of my departure in 2009 was for a similar breach of an agreement hence the need for a clearly defined contract.
I feel that recent statements by the Emporium have not been clear and defined as I felt that they were suggesting that I may be playing at the final event in January 2013.
I felt that these suggestions were both wrong and misleading to those who may have already purchased tickets when a deal with myself was clearly not in place.
In the last 48 hours I have contacted staff at The Emporium asking for them to either clarify their position or to sign the earlier agreed deal.
They have very kindly since issued a statement clarifying that at this moment a deal is not in place and I am not the special guest playing in Jan.
The above statement is 100% accurate and true.
I have made my feelings perfectly clear of my desire to be involved in this event and if it is to be the final event at The Emporium I will be as extremely sad and disappointed as everyone else that I have been excluded in this way.
I hope everyone who attends gives the old building a fabulous send off, after all it is a place where I spent one quarter of my life enjoying good times alongside some of the best people in the world.
I will be thinking of you all.
Much Love
JFK x
