UK dance music publication Mixmag posted a very insightful documentary on how electronic legends Daft Punk got started with the whole helmet concept with interviews in this short video from the original designer on the project...
Daft Punk came onto the scene in the late 1990’s with their futuristic style of house music. It’s a style that fit in well with their choice of attire for the alias. The two people behind the name are both French born and bread with Tomas Bangalter and Guy-Manual de Homem-Christo. With a name like that its p[probably better they came up with Daft Punk for the group. They have had very successful albums with the debut ‘Homework’ putting the duo on the map and the even better follow up ‘Discovery’. The twisted house and techno nature of the tunes goes in fitting with the futuristic helmets the guys wear when performing as Daft Punk.
You can see them in a few of their videos in full spacesuit attire! The history of how this all came about is one worth looking into, which is what Mixmag did last week as they continue a mini documentary series on electronic dance music in conjunction with a beverage company. I’m not a fan of the liqueur but I am of the short movie they have put together looking back at how the whole helmet idea and design process came about for the Daft Punk guys. It was quite fitting they did the Tron soundtrack a few years ago but contrasting it to their new album, it’s a bit to futuristic for the sound the space man helmet theme. It’s interesting to see how it all came about though, check it out below.
