From iconic club brands to iconic mix compilations and one we have not had a release from since 2010 when Dave Seaman released number 39 from Lithuania. The series is back for 2014 with number 40 from hamburg mixed together by Solomun...
It was by pure luck last week I had a nosy on the Global Underground web site to see what was going off at the label as things have been very quite over the past year. The posts on the site became sparser and the facebook updates ground to a halt after their 2014 compilation was release at the beginning of the year. It really made me wonder if the Global Underground label had been dead and buried. That is not so as they have bounced back into life with the 40th edition of their legendary city compilation series.
They originally planned to release number 40 back in 2012 but that got cancelled. The last released was four years ago with a familiar name Dave Seaman returning to the series. After such a lengthy period between releases, which usually came twice a year you could have been forgiven for thinking the worse. Could a series which first came to life with a stunning live mix from Tony De Vit in Tel Aviv in 1996 be no more?
The answer is no, because number 40 has been announced and has been mixed together by house jock Solomun who brings his city theme from the place he was raised as a wee nipper in Hamburg. He is a very well known name on the dance scene and well accredited, he was named DJ of the year by Mixmag in 2012. A very fitting addition to this legendary series which has had the likes of Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Tony De Vit, Nick Warren and John Digweed mix editions in the past. I do hope number 40 is the rebirth for many more volumes to come in the future.
