It's already April of 2002 and summer is looming. To give you a taste of Ibiza, Perfecto releases a beautiful balaeric tune to suit those who are heading to the beaches early
29 Palms, written by 2 producers Jeff Haddad and Randy Sills is the latest offering from Perfecto's new imprint, bringing on where their release by Nilo left off with their quality "Be My Friend" which was released a few months back.
This release over 2x LP contains 4 remixes of "Touch the Sky", a beautiful written and produced balaeric housey chillout anthem which is soon to be big on the shores of Ibiza when they kick off in late June.
A1. Vocal Mix B1. Dub Mix C1. Trash & Dash Mix D1. Lorimer's Hat Rin Chill Mix
Starting off with the best remix in my opinion is the Vocal Mix. Although personally i'm not a house music fan, this one starts off very chilled house like, something I could picture the starting of a Danny Tenaglia set or a Junior Sanchez one, suiting the New York scene rather well. Lasting a couple of minutes with this bassline, then comes a beautiful sample of piano and vocals, which brings you to the beach straight away without being too out of place. The vocals itself are done by Pete Lorimer, who remixed the D side of the track, and is a nice complement to a beautifully mapped out vocal house track. To me, the best part are the vocal stabs and that piano sample which is such a Sunday morning 6am track; perfect for my speakers.
To move onto the B-side, not much different to say about this except that there are no vocals on this, and I guess its a matter of whether you're into the vocals or not, as this song does well with our without them.
Moving onto the 2nd vinyl, we reach a slightly interesting remix from Trash & Dash, and to me, this moves even more into house territory with its electronic buzzes and whizzes in the background and maintaining the very chilled vocals of the tune. A remix which then buzzes off with a nice 4/4 breaks kind of bassline past the halfway mark, and this mix I would see the Radio 1 boys playing it most because of its diversity of sounds
The best thing about the vocals of the song is that they don't jump right out at you and chug along in the background, adding a bit of spacial effects to the track.
Finally moving onto the chillout mix. This is no less or worse than the aforementioned remixes and is definitely one which fits the Ibiza Chris Coco / Amnesia early hours sets most well, adding to it a lovely oriental sounding flute / windpipe which floats effortlessly throughout the track. No bassline to report of here and no vocals either whilst keeping that lovely pian; just a simple ambient / chillout tune with synths which keep it building and loses none of the interest.
Overall a top notch vinyl, and definitely one for my summer box and i can't stop playing it, so props to the Perfecto guys and also to Jeff & Randy who have done a great job with this track. Personal rating? 9/10
