Its been a ten year gap in Paul van Dyk's compilation series 'The Politics Of Dancing' and after numerous rumors of the third edition and a tour at the end of last year the announcement was finally made this week that the new edition will be released in May...
It’s been a very long time coming, and that was just the first mix compilation Paul van Dyk released under his ‘Politics of Dancing’ series. The original edition was an instant classic and a pure double disc mix of tweaked genius. The sound Paul had back then was one more blessed with trance and not so much influenced by the big room beats of today. He did release a second edition not so long after which was another fine mix compilation, but since then the politics of dancing have remained silent.
That was until he embarked on a world tour using the ‘Politics of Dancing 3’ brand, teasing his loyal fans with the possibility of the third mix in his iconic mix series. That went on for quite a while, with no announcement of a new album but plenty of promotion while on tour. This week, the announcement many of his fans were waiting for came, the third edition of ‘The Politics of Dancing’ will be released on the 5th May. That’s the good news and because we here at iVibes can voice our opinion the details of the new edition may well be bad.
There is just the one mix and looking at the compilation it’s mainly made up of Paul van Dyk tracks and collaborations. That would not be too bad, but his releases of late have not been very inspiring or for a better word banging. The second thing is it looks like its going to be released on iTunes, which and you may not agree, is rubbish! Why not full on CD release like John Digweed does with his compilations for the fans that want to put the third edition in its place in the archive next to the previous two? For me, it’s a bit of a disappointment and I’ve not even heard the first beat of the mix yet!
I’m sure I’m not alone in my opinion but after years of waiting for a new Paul van Dyk mix compilation this just comes as a bit of a rush job. You can check out the full tracklist for the mix right below and pre-order from iTunes ahead of its release.
