© Provded by NeurodiscDJ Garfield has been a DJ for more than 15 years and has seen the industry evolve over this time. Here we see what he has to say about his compilation album on Neurodisc, as well as his past experiences.

Garfield started spinning in 1988 spending a couple of years learning his craft, then in 1991 as the dance scene really started to blow up in England he stepped up his game and started to organize his own events, handling the promotions as well as DJ duties.

He also got involved with his local radio station and started their first dance show back in 1993 the show went on to win best local dance show in 95 and he himself won best the best presenter award that same year. His big club break came in the summer of '96 when he was offered the position of Marketing Director in charge of promotions and resident DJ at a new superclub in Nottingham called Essence UK.

In the winter of 98, Garfield moved to South Florida. For a guy who parties like a rock star, South Florida was the ideal place for him. South Beach was blown away by this crazy Englishman with amazing mixing skills that would often be found shirtless standing ON the turntables mixing/scratching and then setting fire to records as they played (you gotta see this).

Briefly describe the proccess you went through to select the tracks on "House and Trance Revisited" How do you determine if a tune is going to be successful? What sorts of elements catch your attention??

DJ Garfield: Hard to say what draws a DJ to a tune sometimes it the breakdown or it can be the bass line but for me after so many years its just a feeling..If I fine myself nodding my head in the record store that's always a good sign as far as signatures goes I must have gone through 100 different tunes to get to the final mix because I would pic one then stop playing it after 2 weeks and move on to something else.(typical attention deficit disorder)

Can you give us a brief story on how you got started and what attracted you to the scene?

DJ Garfield: I got started accidentally my friend ran a mobile disco company back in about 88/89 (weddings etc)and I was at the time a casino manager (believe it or not!) in my home town of Newcastle in the North of England but I also sang (badly) with a band,,so one night when he was short a Dj for a HEAVY METAL disco..yep you heard right he asked me if I would stand there and just play a box of 45 inch singles that he had already sorted for me,so I did and the bar manager liked what I did so I did it on my nights off from the casino for a while then starting doing more and more gigs etc etc now here I am.

What do you see as the next musical wave?

DJ Garfield: A cross breed of funky techno ish house sort of funkier than UK hard house with a hint of techno/trance blended in..(did that make sense?) well that's the kinda shit I'm producing right now hope someone likes it.

What do you think about the US dance scene and how would you compare it to Europe?

DJ Garfield: Nothing against Europe's scene but it has been so huge, incredible, supercallifragalistic etc for ten plus years now its too much about business, money money gimmie gimmie etc so it 's been spoiled somewhat. Where I find here in the US it still has a freshness almost a naivety about it so I think even greater things are going to happen here in America.

What is your favorite record at this moment?

DJ Garfield: Its not quite new anymore but OH MY GOD top tune is still PPK;s incredible RESURRECTION

Where do you see your career in 5 years?

DJ Garfield: the Betty Ford Clinic
