The dust has been blown off one of the iconic artist names in trance with Ferry Corsten delivering a brand new Gouryella. Anahera takes you back to a sound we thought Ferry had long since forgotten…
I’ll be first to admit that I’ve not been excited about the music coming from Flashover Recordings over the past few months, or at least the ones that fly into the inbox to check out. The sound for me is not trance; it’s the run of the mill popular dance sound that people who like to be covered in cake at festivals enjoy. So, on initial approach a new Ferry tune on the label may not have got me excited. That was until I looked at the name, Gouryella! It’s an iconic name in trance with the project initially a joint effort from Ferry and Tiesto.
Since Tiesto left to babysit and have his music produced by very average ghost writers Ferry has still kept into trance. He may have ventured out a little with his sound but trance is still very much in Ferry’s soul. You want proof on that? It’s right here, with the new Gouryella which he’s called ‘Anahera’.

When you think of a classic Gouryella tune you think of that embracing bass line. Well, its back! When you think of Gouryella you cam imagine the uplifting melodies. Well, its back! When you think of Gouryella you think of the classic tunes like Gouryella, Whalhalla, Tenshi and Ligya. They may not be back but the style, sound and emotion those past records delivered most certainly is. If you’re looking for a ‘drop’, jog on! The trance purist and those who were inspired by the 1999 sound have been waiting for Ferry to produce a record like this for some time. It’s the best piece of music I’ve heard from ferry for quite some time and does the Gouryella name a great service. Not reinventing the style, having a new one with today’s mainstream crap influencing the agenda is so refreshing.
Conclusion:
If you know what Gouryella is all about, you don’t need me to describe every sound on the record; you just need to listen to it. Gouryella is back and back with a real bang. Ferry Corsten, you have done the trance community a great service by bringing back a sound we all thought would never be heard again!
