Lexicon Avenue first came to light when John Digweed signed 'Here I Am' to GU014. Since then, their productions have rocked dancefloors with their deep driving sound. All the big DJ's have picked up on their releases and seriously give them some pressure on the decks!
I:Vibes got the chance to gain a bit of inside knowledge on Lexicon Avenue..here is what they came up with >>
Lexicon Avenue is one of the most famous names in the industry, but who comprises it?
"Lexicon Avenue are Scott Bradford, Chris Scott & Mark Armstrong"
When did you all first meet? ..and did you decide to collaborate straight away or continue with your own personal ventures?
"We all met about 11 years ago. Scott and Chris started working on tunes straight away along with Scott's Shindig partner Scooby. The production name was SHINDIG and they released tracks on Junior Boys Own and Bomba aswell as remixing people like Danny Tenaglia and H2O for DMC. Scott, Chris and Mark started working together as Lexicon Avenue in 1998 and released "Here I Am" which was picked up by Deep Dish."
So in the end why did all three of you decide to join forces?
"Scott & Chris had been working on lots of projects together and Scott & Mark worked together in Flying Records so it made sense to do a tune together. It was at this point that we decided to start Forensic Records rather than give other labels our music all the time."
Away from Lexicon Avenue for just one second, did you have any releases as individuals?
"Scott and Chris also work as Little Green Men, New Phunk Theory and Third Movement, Chris is also part of Mooncat & Echomen and Chris & Mark released a track under the name Bone City."
Back onto Lexicon Avenue, what was your first release together?
"Here I Am"
I personally have quite a lot of your tracks: id say most were deep progressive: in your opinion, is this sound being pushed at the moment?
"We don't see our sound as progressive more house than anything although alot of progressive DJ's are playing our records."
I see your tracks all having the solid Lexicon Avenue trademark sound-deep and meaningful- has you sound changed?
"Not really we have always been into and produced different styles although it's all house at the end of the day."
Past productions have been eagerly awaited on full release, whilst white labels were being played. What have you got up and coming for our ears?
"Next up on Forensic: Echomen "Substance" / Little Green Men "These Are The Beats" / Lexicon Avenue "From Dusk Till Dawn Sander Kleinenberg & Weekend world mixes" As Lexicon Avenue we are just finishing a remix for Renaissance and are due to start a vocal track for Forensic."
Your remix of "Shuffle Inc-Remember NY" is set to be massive, as it is very sought after-like "why r u here"-what do you think has been your most successful release?
"From Dusk Till Dawn or Why R U Here is set to be our biggest seller whilst our mix of "Breathe" seems to be very popular all over the world. When we ar travelling DJ'ing this seems to be the remix everyone talks about."
Apart from the close connections, obviously, with Forensic label, what other labels have you released tracks for?
"we have released and remixed tracks on Forensic, Yoshitoshi, SAW, Hooj Choons, Renaissance, Polydor, Vibrant, NRK, Plastic Fantastic, Chilli Funk."
You have briefly touched on the DJ side of life, where do you DJ?
"Scott & Mark are residents @ Shindig between us we have DJ'd in LA, San Fran, NY, Miami, Tel A Viv, Brussells, Ibiza, Geneva, Melbourne, Belfast and all over the UK We are trying to push Lexicon Avenue package on clubs at the moment that would be Scott & Mark Dj'ing with Chris doing a live sampling & EFX thing."
Where was your first gig? and how would you describe the feeling knowing you were at the head of the turntables?
"Scott's was in a really rough bar in Washington Tyne & Wear back in 1989. Scott started Shindig with Scooby in 1992 it's ten next month and has just won best uk underground club @ the music awards. Nervous and very happy. Just like it is every time."
From your first-where is the most memorable place you have had the opportunity to DJ?
"to many to mention but Shindig is obviously our fave place. "
Your DJ sets are quite hard to find-as the only one i have is your Kiss 100 mix-Where can we find more from you?
"Scott has done mixes on Radio 1 and Galaxy many times."
