One of the latest tracks to be played out by Oakenfold and Way Out West has been this little beauty of a track, with that remix from Jori Hulkonnen which rocks all the way to heaven.
Telepopmusik, the act from France, has released this track on Chrysalis Records about a month or so ago, and it has been causing quite a stir with the big jocks at the moment.
Since Way Out West picked it up for their Ministry of Sound set, we've seen Oakenfold pick it up, and also Dave Seaman, with its melodic grooves and subtle house sounds.
This record features the following three mixes, though there are more available:
A1. Jori Hulkonnen Mix B1. Markus Nikolai Thinking of SDC Mix B2. New Extended Mix
The track itself was written some time in 2001, with the Markus Nikolai Mix already in existence just after summer of 2001. The new additions are the other 2 mixes, including the gorgeous Jori Hulkonnen Mix, which is definitely my favourite out of the 3.
Blends of house sounds, Balearic ambience, chilling vocals and also a lovely melody are how I would describe the Hulkonnen Mix, and if released in May or June, I would see this as being one of the biggest hits over this coming summer, along with the upcoming Mach 747 - Invading Privately, remixed by 29 Palms, as well as 29 Palms own "Touch the Sky" production.
The track resembles a mix between a Way Out West production and perhaps a Dave Seaman one, with a nice bubbling bassline throughout, and its buzzing ambience, and is definitely one which gets my 2 thumbs up.
At just under 6 and a half minutes, the only thing I wish the Jori Hulkonnen Mix was, was that it would be slightly longer, bringing out the true potential of it, over lets say 8 minutes. But nonetheless, the best mix in my opinion.
Moving onto the SDC Mix, it starts off seemingly like an ambient tune for the first 45 odd seconds, with the vocalist chilling your speakers with her smooth sounds.
Then the bassline kicks in for the continuation of the track, bringing up a subliminal trancey, housey track which would definitely fit on those "Groove Lounge" CDs we are seeing ever so often. Some might argue that this mix is slightly on the dull side, but personally, a nice chilled affair over the 7 minutes which this one plays for.
Moving towards the New Extended Mix, this brings up a lighter touch to the track, especially if played at -2 or -4 on your turntables. Adding some EFX and chimes throughout the tune adds a chirping feel to the track, as one of those "wake up and getting changed" kinda tunes. Still the vocals are there, making this a nice remix as well, but still unable to defeat the remix skills of Jori Hulkonnen, who I believe is the next man to watch for.
Overall? I'd give the Jori Hulkonnen Mix a 9/10, and the overall LP an 8/10 for its consistency.
Telepopmusik's upcoming album will be released shortly titled "Genetic World" so keep an eye out for that.
