Maya Jane Coles will release a new EP entitled ‘Darkside’, featuring self-crafted singer-songwriter Chelou, marking the third EP to be taken from the independent DJ/producer’s sensational new double LP ‘Take Flight’, heralded by DJ Mag as her “landmark album”.
‘Darkside’ continues Maya’s unstoppable streak of standout releases. ‘Won’t Let You Down’ and ‘Weak/Werk’, the first two EPs from Take Flight, received worldwide critical acclaim from FADER, Wonderland, Mixmag, Complex, The Huffington Post and many others, while Radio 1’s Pete Tong made ‘Trails’ his “Essential New Tune”.
The EP will see Maya rekindle her close working relationship with singer-songwriter Chelou who brought further melancholy to Maya’s Nocturnal Sunshine alias on the 2015 single “Believe”. Maya went on to produce the mysterious London artist’s recent single ‘Halfway to Nowhere’, which has racked up an impressive 5 million streams on YouTube alone with a video illustrated by artist Polly Nor.
Title track ‘Darkside’ is hazily surreal, combining slow-motion beats with Chelou’s pensive vocals. ‘Trails’ is a sleek voyage of hypnotic sampling and celestial textures while ‘Passing Me By’ introduces fiery energy next to shimmering chords and pulsating percussion, showing Maya’s distinctive production touch.
Maya Jane Coles is a resolutely independent artist who writes, produces, engineers, and creates the artwork for all her music. From winning multiple awards, touring the world’s greatest venues, supporting Depeche Mode to releasing mix compilations for DJ Kicks, Fabric Live, remixing The XX to Ella Fitzgerald to Bonobo, leading campaigns for Doc Martens or being sampled for Nicki Minaj’s mega hit ‘Truffle Butter’, Maya Jane Coles is at the very summit of her game.
