The second edition of the Above & Beyond monthly newsletter has landed with the thoughts of Paavo Siljamki on the pages this month…
I really like the new idea the Above & Beyond guys have come up with on their freshly launched newsletter. With the overload of social media, its nice just to get something to read drop in your inbox from one of your favourite artists. Each month, one of the trio within Above & Beyond delivers the very latest musical goings on as well as an insight into their personal music taste at the moment and what TV shows have been filling their spare hours with. The second edition for August comes from Paavo Siljamki.
I would highly recommend joining their mailing this and checking out these updates. Sign up right here.
WHAT A MONTH
Flow State, our ambient album, written during one of the most challenging periods of my life, was finally released. It turned all those dark feelings into bright, positive, uplifting and life-affirming light. The launch events in London, New York, Squaw Valley and, to top it off, at Group Therapy Weekender at The Gorge were such healing moments to be a part of. It's all left me with a feeling of having been reborn as a stronger, more true version of myself.
WHAT I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO
One thing that blew me away recently on the music front was leaving Fleetwood Mac's 'Don't Stop' 2018 playing on my Spotify. The sheer number of great songs is mind-boggling, but the touching stories in the lyrics seem so relatable... even in 2019, so many years after the songs were written. Great songs are timeless!

WHAT I'VE BEEN WATCHING - QUEER EYE
HQ was wondering what I've been watching recently. I ended up seeing an episode of Queer Eye on Netflix and was immediately impressed by the idea of the show. It's the same thing that impressed me during my first days at Burning Man in 2014: it's amazing to see people going above & beyond to do nice, cool things for others.
In Queer Eye, a team of five (gay) guys travel to a city to help an individual whose life is 'stuck' in one way or another - an individual not living their life to their full potential. They makeover their house, help them with psychology, food, styling and grooming: the end result is a truly empowering and uplifting watch. It touches on some deeper emotional, cultural, religious and political issues and deals with them in a very open-minded and caring way.
