The latest offering from Dutchman Misja Helsloot after his enormous ITWT 007 compilation is a single which is causing a bit of a stir, on Misja's own label and is set to be one of the biggest tracks of this summer.
First Second is the first release from "First Second Records" an offshoot from Gesture Music which is run and owned by Misja himself, Roland Kramer And Maarten van Oosten.
The track has been featured on Paul van Dyk's Soundgarden set as well as the latest ITWT compilation and is already set to be one of the biggest tracks of the summer.
Tracklist
A1. Original Mix B1. Ralphie B Mix
German meister Paul van Dyk has already been playing the Original Mix of this since the end of 2001, and its already recieved excellent feedback from the listeners as well as PvD himself. A superb 9 and a half minutes, almost 10, this progressive trance track is one of the best tunes I've heard this year. Produced with Inkfish, from Choo Choo Records and Limbo Records fame, this track starts off in a very progressive mood with the sublime bassline and synthetic grooves the builder is a very chilled trance affair and not pumping if thats what you had expected. The reproduced synth throughout the first few minutes is beautiful to say the least, but if you liked that sound, wait till you reach the first break. A truly awesome melodic riff which only lasts 10-15 seconds odd but enough to tease you as to whats expected for the rest of the track. I think the main element of this track is the melody used, and it would be perfectly suitable for a club track as well as a home one; nothing too hard, nothing too soft, just perfect!
Moving onto the b-side, Ralph Berandse aka Ralphie B, famous for his production "Massive", and his remixes of Taste Experience "Highlander" this remix definitely has his sound to it, and is instantly recognizable with that electronic buzz. A harder tipped and in a sense "more progressive" track, this one is definitely more for the Armin van Buuren's and Ferry Corsten's out there who like it stringy and more percussive. Not to say the original lacked anything, but this comes from a different direction altogether, bringing in new elements and a new atmosphere. The first few minutes have the signature Ralphie B rolling electronic sounds to accompany melody, and when the break hits, you are faced with some uplifting delight... truly beautiful and is the best part of the song. The rest of the track keeps the energy which has already been built up and to me, would be an excellent buildup to any trance set around or even an ending track. The one difference in this track compared to the a-side is that another small break ensues towards the last one and a half minutes and finishes off this track excellently.
Both mixes are great and if you're into the trance sound of the moment, I would recommend you check this out!
Released on Gesture Music's offshoot First Second Records in June.
