Menno De Jong broke the news this week that 2020 will be his final year touring as a DJ and after one final event at the end of the year he is taking a step back from the trance scene after 20 years fully absorbed within it
It’s hard to imagine a trance world without the name Menno De Jong featuring within but come the back end of last year you will have two. Menno teased an announcement of some kind was coming this week and today that announcement came. It was not one which I did not expect but after taking in his full statement I can understand why Menno has decided to play his last ever DJ gig on the 12th September 2020.
Menno has provided the trance scene with some beautiful singles, remixes, compilations and solo performances over the past two decades. As we head into 2020 its time for Menno to focus on Menno and his family. I can understand his reasoning as the life of an international DJ is one full of travel and leaves limited time for personal experiences and moments together with the family. He’s going out with a bang though and has a full booking of events planned in the run up to his final gig in September as he does a worldwide farewell tour aiming to revisit those places that have special memories for him.
While as a trance fan I support Menno is what decision is, I’m sure the music lover within himself will involved himself in trance in the years to come, just not like he has over the 20 years within the scene. Let’s hope, we have not heard the last Menno De Jong contribution to trance as after September the 12th next year he hangs up his headphones for good.
MENNO DE JONG ANNOUNCEMENT
My dear fan or friend,
With humble gratitude and respect I’m hereby announcing that on September 12th 2020 I will be performing the last set of my DJ career at Menno Solo – The Finale. The past 20 years have brought countless memorable moments, allowed me to see many of the world’s most beautiful places, and brought amazing people in to my life..
But throughout that era I have grown older and changed significantly as a person, developing a pressing sense of urgency to make decisions about how I spend the remaining time in my life. Whereas the thought of touring as a DJ was initially infinitely enticing, over time it has become clear to me that it is also an enormously taxing lifestyle that leaves limited room for personal growth, health and time with family and friends. Moreover, I’m finding it increasingly hard to consolidate my environmental and animal rights beliefs with a profession that involves constantly jetting from one part of the world to another. These topics are something that have always been very close to my heart.
Up until my last show I will be doing my very best to visit all the places I have performed at in the past one last time, so that we can have a proper goodbye, celebrate with the amazing music of the past two decades, and so that I can personally thank you for all your support – I couldn’t have done it without you and it’s been such a great ride..
Hoping for your understanding, with much love,
Menno
