The second release on the Gesture Label which Misja Helsloot runs is one from the producer Roland K, a man who has worked on numerous projects over the past 5 years and has collaborated with some of the top guys in the industry. This track is another addition to what looks to be the promising Gesture Music label
With summer coming, the tracks are piling in, and this one is one which will fit in well with the summer period. Featuring 3 tracks, including a remix, there is no doubt that this will be big with the progressive trance DJs around, as it's cool dubby sounds are perfect for the dance floor. Roland Kramer is the producer behind this LP and he has worked in the past with DJ Tiesto under Hammock Brothers, with Misja Helsloot under 2 Men Strong, as well as a solo projects under "Apron" and "Remark. His individualistic sound can be seen within each of his guises and he has been considered as a pioneer of his sound.
Tracklisting A1. Elixir B1. Kisses B2. Kisses (Sandbenders Mix)
With Elixir coming in on the A-side, one finds themselves in a very interesting production. Featured on Misja Helsloot's ITWT 007, the word 'interesting' is used in the positive sense as it brings in elements which I have not really heard often in the trance sound at the moment. Rolling in a progressive bassline for the first several minutes, you start to hear the surging build of the melodies and rhythms which this track bring forth, and this becomes more prominent as you reach the first mini-break. The first thoughts which came to me when the melody comes in, is the Sahara Desert; An interesting viewpoint I'd agree, but listen to it, and you may see the desert as well. The instruments itself are nothing out of the ordinary, but its the interesting melody which catches my ears. I can see this track being put into perhaps the trancier parts of an Anthony Pappa set or even a Sasha Digweed set, as it is somewhat progressive. But saying that, Armin could easily pick this up for a builder... Definitely hard to isolate this track into any particular genre! Kisses comes about on the B-Side, and this one comes out as a more housier kind of feeling compared to Elixir, and is definitely the sound of the moment, especially with the summer coming by pretty soon, this definitely defines the sound. Subtle female vocals taint the track for a perfect sounding progressive grooving housey track. The deep and dark-esque drum sequence keeps it subliminal and is a track which will move the crowd at the early hours of the night. Perhaps good for starting a set or ending with it, as thats the feeling it gives, and if you asked me to put this in a genre, i'd probably classify this under progressive house.
The Sandbenders Remix of Kisses appears to be similar to the original mix, but has a lighter bassline and a bouncier groove to it. Definitely a builder for the likes of Anthony Pappa and Cass & Slide, with a melodic edge to it. Personally, the remix is better the original as it does 'progress' and keep a more power throughout the track.
Overall, if I had to choose, Elixir would be my choice of track as it comes out as being a melodic progressive affair, with the interesting melody.. Taking it away from the typical patterns of music, I would imagine that most people would engine this one. Overall rating? 7.5/10, with a solid production! Definitely must be checked out!
