Fatboy Slim aka Norman Cook is now the official DJ for the World Cup 2002. He will be Djing at various events throughout the tournament.
Norman is set to play a gig after each of England's World Cup games in Japan and South Korea.
It seems to be that -Big Beach Boutique #2, also known as Normstock #2- will be taking place on Saturday 13 July, 2002 in Brighton Beach, and is hosted by Fatboy Slim's own Records Label: Southern Fried, with the support of Brighton City Council. DJs appearing on what should be a scorcher of a day will be John Digweed and Midfield General the head honcho at Skint Records. So taking over Brighton beach for a Free Party, Fatboy Slim will DJ in his home town, hosting Brighton’s very own Normstock 2!
On other matters, Fatboy Slim has refused to mix a track for his favourite football team Brighton FC because he thinks football anthems are cheesy. Brighton have just won promotion from the second division to the first and wanted an anthem to celebrate their success. Club chairman Dick Knight asked Fatboy Slim to do a remix of their traditional song, Sussex by The Sea. But Fatboy said no. "Tempting as the offer was, I had to turn it down. I love music and I love my football but in my opinion the two just do not mix," said Norman Cook. "I've heard the various World Cup and Cup Final songs and I don't really like any of them. They're a bit cheesy. It's not the kind of thing I want to get involved with."
Fatboy invested a six-figure sum earlier in the season for the club to pay for new players. His record label Skint also sponsors the club. "I get to as many matches as I can," said Norman. "Zoe has even been to a couple and baby Woody is a fan."
