Method is a label that has laid the foundations for a more sinister progressive approach. Appearances from Jay Welsh, Jade etc on production duty and the likes of Tilt on remix duty have sent Method straight into the boxes of all the major DJ's-what has their success been built around?
i:Vibes got a chance to chat to Keith McDonnell (aka Innate) on the formation of Method, in the light of Baroque Records. Keith himself is co-owner of Baroque and Method, as well as contributing to the productions/remixes and Djing- how does he find the time?!?! Baroque are currently touring-but Method records will most likely see major presses from the touring DJ's in a bid to maintain their status as one of the regular producers of quality progressive.
Here is what the discussion was all about:
With your "Sister label" Baroque doing so well, why did you decide to run Method alongside it?
Method was started as Baroque was catering for the more traditional house sound but we were getting these demos of great tracks that were more progressive, so we started Method to put these out.
How do the music styles vary from each label?
Well like i said baroque caters for the housier stuff & method for the bigger progressive sounding stuff.
Method has been running for just over 6 months, how do you see the success of the label so far?
Yeah it's going great, i think the dance scene on the whole took a bit of a battering towards the end of last year & the start of 2002 but we're happy with where we're at with both labels.
How would you compare this to Baroque's success of the first 6 months?
Well like i said we started Method at a time when the industry was on a bit of a down turn but it still took off well with the Tilt mixes of Jay Welshand has continued to hold it's own in an ever growing market.
Method productions like "Safar" have been widely played by a variety of DJ's. Sander Kleinenberg also put "a day in the life of an eastern assassin" on his NuBreed compilation ( the demand for this was huge!) which of your releases do you think has seen the most success ?
On Method it would have to be Jay Welsh 'four horsemen'... with the Tilt mix on it it just flew out!
Jay Welsh imprinted his unique deep sound on METHOD001...will we see him make a reappearance at some stage?
yeah jay will be do something as a follow up i'm sure, i know he has been concentrating on his own labels for a while though.
How will Method be looking to generate the sort of success it has seen to present in the future?
We have some really exciting projects up & coming on Method.. we signed a few new artists in Miami & these guys write & produce & sing! so expect some really hot material up & coming.. on top of these new artists we will have follow up tracks from Jade, Sworn, Stripped Inc, Bravemusic etc..
There is a section for Method on the Baroque Records web site, when will the Method section be up and running?, as it is under construction at present.
The Method section is actually up & running NOW
Many thanks as ever go out to Keith for making the interview possible.. and for supplying me with constant information. Look out for loads more related Method/Baroque news in the future!
www.baroquerecords.co.uk Method has it own section within the site.
