It's time for something completely different with a little bit of Italian synthwave retro sounding beats from Hungarian producer Leslie Young and his debut artist collection…
Before tonight if you asked me who Leslie Young was I would not have a clue. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a record from him before. Thankfully the nice people over at Girlfriend Records sent news of his debut artist album releases this week called ‘Cybermodernism’. I’m a great lover of the classic 80’s sound and in recent years the fresh injection of new music taking that old synth wave production and dropping some modern sounds with it have been floating my boat.
The Robert Nickson alter ego project Analog 82 is one I’d highlight as a favourite over the past few years. Now then, just what is this new album from a gentleman called Leslie Young all about. For one it’s got that classic sythn sound in there over the 8 tracks to be found within this little gem of an album. I’m getting flashbacks of old computer game introductions, a bit of a Pet Shop Boys vibe on a few tracks and a reminder of backing track from an old film called Trading Places. It’s quite the diverse journey Leslie takes you on with this album.
The release is a digital and streaming one and features 8 tracks with an edit of the last track ‘With You’ right on the end. Something a bit different to engage the ear buds with and very much worth taking a listen to.
