Biography:
Westy formed the Olmecheads with Andy Perring in late 98 and soon found that their straight-forward approach to making (at the time to them) what was just dance music soon found a position with the main players on the growing trance scene the likes of Paul Oakenfold, who at one point played two Olmec tunes back to back.
West had been in the music business for some time, albeit in a different scene In the late 80s and early 90s, Westy was involved in playing the guitar within various rock bands and is lately seen using some of that talent in his productions.
Carving out a living on the road, taking in tours of Europe and Asia with different support slots, Westy has come to a point where he has no desire to do it again, and rarely can be persuaded to pick up a record box. He has left the gigs to the younger men, preferring to stay at home in is studio and just coming out for the interesting ones, such as spinning a few at Extravaganza closing party at Privilege in Ibiza last year and playing a very rare live Olmecheads set at the Plaza of nations in Vancouver, Canada.
After two releases on UCMG, Lift Off / New Skies, Promises (Out there) then came the first of two releases on Neo records; "Spiritualized" followed by "Magicman", which brought them to the front of the must have remix list which include labels such as Perfecto, IDJ, Epic, Sony, React, Mute, Manifesto, and such artist as Space brothers, Trouser Enthusiasts John 00 Fleming, Moby and Apollo 440.
With record and management company changes in the last two years and forays into different Musical styles and some music commission’s for corporate video in the U.S.A. West has come back to what he likes the best and what he quotes:
As “ proper trance “ the latest single now on Olmecca Records” The Return” a tough Tec/trance monster is out on limited Promo tearing up the dance floors from IBIZA TO IDAHO. And is set for a full release in October."
This year has also seen remixess for Matt Caesar’s Stusnics label and remixes and releases under Westy’s more prog/trance guise 'Intarsa'. There is also a new track from the darkside under the Deck Slaves moniker set for the New Year. Also in the New Year will see the New OlmecHeads tune already on the mixing desk.
Keep up the work Westy!
