Finally it's here! The long-awaited release of this mindblowing piece. This uplifting track by A.Toupin, A.Cavaluzi, M.Cerf and M.Frappier has been hammered a lot lately by big DJ's such as Paul van Dyk, and it is also featured on van Dyk's Politics of Dancing.
Personally, I have been waiting for this one a very long time. It has been on top of my list for several months and now it's finally here. Let's take a look at it:
A1. Empire (Original Mix)
In my opinion this is the best mix of this track. It starts with an easy beat, and some nice industrial synths. Then after one minute, a nice, warm and gentle bass comes in. You can hear a chilled filtered pad in the backgroud, to give it that extra touch. Then, while approaching the 3 minute mark, several bass layers and percussion lines are added. Then after a good long buildup, a screaming submelody punches in. This goes on for about a minute, and then the best stuff comes in...
The main melody comes into play. Some warm filtered/modulated synths, which sound very dynamic and subtle, are joined by the amazing submelodies and beautiful percussion. After a 2 minute build up, it flows into the climax. This altogether sounds astonishing. After the gorgeous climax and breakdown, this perfect track ends with a final puff. Ten minutes of total pleasure!
A2. The Answer
This is a more funky piece by Second Sun. It has nice female vocals, whispering through the intro and buildup. A nice bass in combination with the percussion gives it a good drive. After a 2 minute build up, the strings come in. When this happens, the melody goes up a few tones. This tracks uses alot of stabby, modulating synths too. After a short pause, a punchy stab synth is added. This gives the tune a clubby sound.
In the break, driving female voices are being repeated several times, with a cool breakbeat under it. After a minute it explodes, and all the segments of this track are joined altogheter. After a short while the tune breaks down and ends. A cool track.
B1. Empire (TPOD Mix by Paul van Dyk)
This is PvD's rework that is featured on the Politics Of Dancing album. It's more trancy, and it has more 'raw' sounds, harder kicks, etcetera. The buildup is pretty much the same as the Original Mix. He has used some other synths, but they have been used in the same way as the Original Mix. Not much more to say about this.
Personally, I prefer the Original Mix over PvD's rework. And I consider 'The Answer' as a very good B-Sider. If you haven't heard this vinyl yet, rush over to your local store and get it! It will rock your world for sure.
